Gives a good overview of how groups try to get brands to cancel and call out without the agreement of the execs.

That made me laugh - as did (for once) the comments.
The Spectator shows other weak woke brands going broke (looking at you M & S) the way forward.

Fantastic article! 1000 new subscriptions 😀 Between sales of JK Rowling latest and this, I’m feeling quite cheerful that the Great British Public is as ready as it ever was to stick two fingers up to po faced bullies.

Just the headline for Rod Riddle's article this week made me laugh:
'Time for me to be more Assertive.' Grin

He hates everyone equally!

A win-win for the Spectator! No lost advertising income and a load of new subscribers.

FleetsumNJetsum · 24/09/2020 18:26

Yes, excellent. Would this have happened last year (Co-op apologising and rejecting this as cancel culture)?

What about all the women who have lost their jobs? Sadly I don't see them getting them back, and many women IN jobs are still worried of being outed. What can we do for them? Things may be changing for big corporations. What about the soldiers on the front line fighting for their livelihoods? Sorry for all the question marks.

DeRigueurMortis · 24/09/2020 19:16

Great article and let's hope other corporations take note of this cautionary tale....

TweeBree · 24/09/2020 19:32

As I suspected they had been targeted by a troll farm called Stop Funding Hate which goes after corporates who advertise in publications with which they disagree. The idea is to find 30 or 40 activists – sometimes far fewer – to target the corporation’s Twitter account and persuade the social media manager that there’s some kind of a national uproar. If this trick works, the terrified social media team cave to their demands and offer some kind of apology for advertising in the target – without realising what they have just dragged their company into.

Great explanation here.

Damn: I can't read the comments unless I subscribe, apparently.

Tempted....

Anyone else wondering what Alice's fate was?

Another Spectator article from today well worth reading:

Just subscribed

I do think it is important to uphold/encourage balanced journalism.

Thank you Speccie

Melroses · 24/09/2020 22:54

Win win all round. Speccie got 1000 subscriptions, Co-op got to keep Iain's wine order (which they say is substantial).
