A big thank you to everyone who helped promote the book!

I read an article in the Independent the other day about the new Harry Potter game and how it was essentially the morally correct thing to do to boycott it because nasty JKR is transphobic (not quoting what she actually said, of course). It was was the most one-sided nonsensical piece of shit I've read in a long time. I was enraged by how slanted it was, I felt absolutely gaslighted.

I don't know if journalists truly believe in what they are writing (and conveniently not including anything to give balance) or if they're discarding integrity for woke biscuits.

Anyway I bought Troubled Blood on the release day and was glad I had the buggy with me to carry it home... Haven't started it yet as I know I'll be addicted and need a clear run at it.

NotTerfNorCis · 23/09/2020 17:31

I have to admit I wouldn't have bought this book without all the attacks on JKR and all the biased publicity because I'm not usually a fan of detective fiction. I have bought it though and am looking forward to reading it!

AsTreesWalking · 23/09/2020 17:43

I've enjoyed all the Strike books, and listened to this one. It's a good twisty tale, and I do like Robin and Strike. The character who puts on a wig is definitely not a transwoman but a man trying to deceive. if TRAs think that's transohobic, then I'm Confused.
There are a lot of interesting undercurrents in this book, subtle, but they are there - any reader of this board will spot them...

CodenameVillanelle · 23/09/2020 17:45

I'm 29.5 hours into the audiobook and it's bloody good. However much I love Harry Potter I'd never have read a detective series if it wasn't for the TRA bullying. I expect many people feel the same. Wankers! Everyone I know is getting a copy for Christmas, as well as all the kids I know getting the ickabog or the new illustrated Harry Potter.

Wasabiaddiction · 23/09/2020 18:15

I downloaded it on audible just to show my support to her.

But sounds like I should listen to them in order.

What was the first one in the series called?

DurtySarf · 23/09/2020 18:16

It looks like Amazon deleted the reviews from people who hadn't read it.

On Goodreads unfortunately, the top review (with nearly 500 likes) is from someone who hasn't read it and is simply smearing JKR.

Perhaps some more of us might like to 'like' some of the reviews from individuals who have actually read the book?

justawoman · 23/09/2020 18:17

I also read it lying on the sofa with it resting on a cushion on top of me. Surprisingly comfortable.

Oh, and it’s a great read

DurtySarf · 23/09/2020 18:18

@Wasabiaddiction, the first book is The Cuckoo's Calling

TheShoesa · 23/09/2020 18:20

The first Strike novel is The Cuckoo's Calling

But be warned - once you've read that you'll probably want to read more. And it's not really my genre, either, I just wanted to support JKR and this seemed an ideal way to do that

testing987654321 · 23/09/2020 18:21

this is “by far” the biggest single-week sale for any Galbraith title, almost double the first-week sales of the novel’s predecessor, Lethal White.

So glad she's getting this support.

Malahaha · 23/09/2020 18:21

I'd like to get the Ickabog for my granddaughter for Christmas. She's 11 -- is that too old?

Deltoids1 · 23/09/2020 18:26

It’s a flipping fantastic read. I couldn’t put it down.
And I reckon JKR walks amongst us. There are several themes in the book that will stand out to anyone who been around FWR.
I think there’s a subtle wave to us all from Jo. 👋🏼

SirSamuelVimes · 23/09/2020 18:28

Possibly, but if you want a JKR alternative the MinaLima team (did the graphic design for the films) have done a new illustrated version of the first HP novel, it looks stunning and it's got interactive bits - like Harry's Hogwarts letter is an actual letter in an envelope you can take out! It's available to preorder at the moment, I think.
Whatsnewpussyhat · 23/09/2020 18:33

The ickabog sales will be amazing and worldwide due to the kids drawing competition.

This week's Troubled Blood sales are everyone sticking one giant middle finger up at the pathetic narcissists

CaptainInsensible · 23/09/2020 18:39

I’ve just downloaded a sample of the first book in the series. I used to love detective fiction so hopefully this will be good. I’ll buy the whole thing on payday if the sample’s good. I probably never would have bothered if it wasn’t for all the controversy. Attempting to ban things has a long history of making them much more popular, doesn’t it! When will these would-be censors learn?!

NotTerfNorCis · 23/09/2020 18:41

Ugh, just read a spiteful review in the LA Times that seems to give away the twist. The author is gunning for JKR from the word go. It actually says ' I’ll go ahead and spoil it for you' but then doesn't give you chance to react and stop reading.

heathspeedwell · 23/09/2020 18:53

All the Strike books are good but this one really is superb. I can't think of much else that offers so many hours of bliss for £20.

Redshoeblueshoe · 23/09/2020 19:00

I'm really enjoying it. Amazon shouldn't allow people to review it if they haven't purchased it.
I'm telling myself that the sheer weight of it means I'm getting exercise at the same time.
I agree with Deltoids lots of familiar themes running through the book.

mum2jakie · 23/09/2020 19:06

I love the sound of this. Do you have a link to preorder? I can only find older illustrated editions on Amazon.

bellinisurge · 23/09/2020 19:09

I'm enjoying it on my Kindle.

ForeverFaithless · 23/09/2020 19:24

I have just started into the first book in the series after recently finishing A Casual Vacancy. The Ikabog on pre order too, my 2 boys love Harry Potter.

It warms my heart to see how much support she has, she is a truly wonderful woman.

chliing19 · 23/09/2020 19:27

Got the kindle version for iPad. It is the best strike book yet and has many feminist themes running through it. Really enjoyed it and am now bereft.

LockdownLump · 23/09/2020 19:30

I am going to buy the whole series.

Thanks so much to the disgusting TRA's who have ushered me into it because its totally not my genre, but I will relish reading these knowing how many people I will be pissing off.

The fact that JK can still turn out amazing work with the abuse and nastiness and rape threats she has received of late, I absolutely applaud her.

I ❤️ JKR

fatblackcatspaw · 23/09/2020 19:34

I'm reading my way through the whole series. Really enjoying it. The setting in London is a bonus as I've visited it lots and can picture it in my minds eye. Glad that buying book is putting two fingers up to the wokies. And also noticed that quite a few of the other books have been high up in amazon chart too so its lifting her other sales.
