"AFAB Transwoman"

I've just come across an 'assigned female at birth transwoman' (on twitter). I don't even know why I'm starting this thread apart from trying to get my head around my absolute disbelief that this can even be a thing. So they're female but identifying as a male that wants to be female? What?

I did a bit of googling and found this thread and it's just boggled my mind even more

forum.emptyclosets.com/index.php?threads/does-anyone-identify-as-an-afab-transwoman.420822/

I think it might be time for bed...

@BriocheForBreakfast

The irony of this poster

"You are a dysphoric woman, but calling yourself a trans woman is appropriating an experience you do not have, and is misrepresenting what it means to be a trans woman"

It's brilliant isn't it. They're SO affronted by the concept and yet the irony is completely lost on them...

@FatGirlShrinking

It's interesting that some of the responses on that thread are saying how offensive it is that the OP is appropriating the identity of a trans woman without the lived experience of being one but fail to recognise or accept that men appropriating the identity of a woman without the lived experience may also be seen as offensive.

No self awareness and not the sharpest tool in the box is what I'm taking from that.

I reckon it's a parody but anyway, some days I think humans really wouldn't be any worse off without speech.

Does seem to be the height of irony, but it’s possible this particular person doesn’t claim to be a woman.

I'm not sure that even matters. It's the TRA argument - we'll do what we like to you but if you do it to us, you are wrong.

I read the whole thread and the cries of appropriation came from TW with profiles that say (female trans*) but it doesn't really matter IMO.

Some of the posters are encouraging others to 'be kind' and others are pissed that their trans and/or TW 'label' is being used by a natal woman. Ah the cognitive dissonance and irony is palpable - not surprising in the slightest but incredibly amusing and saddening to see the lack of self-awareness the posters have.

Someone even referenced 'blackface' as a comparison to the AFAB OP claiming the label 'trans'. And that (maybe another poster) justified TW as being the same as black women - most posting appear to be not only misogynistic but also racist twits.

The conversation is so nonsensical and cyclical that I guiltily laughed out loud reading the thread - it reads like a poorly written script of a group discussion for an episode of Black Mirror.

FireUnderTheHand · 15/09/2020 20:40

*should have said natal woman that does not identify as a man but identifies as a woman that identifies as a man that identifies as a woman

Whew! My fingers had problems typing that - like my brain was sending signals they did not want to obey.

I've just seen that Shock "I'm trying to wrap my head around this and keep an open mind, but the only thing I can think is "this is what afro-americans must feel when they encounter somebody wearing blackface.""

Judging by the words used and the user's profile, I think it's safe to assume that white male priviledge was responsible for that post.

How fucking insulting to use blackface ... but not drag queens as an example??

Last year there was a thread on twitter about female presenting trans boys celebrating themselves. These were all teenage females who had decided they were trans but wanted to present in a female way. I just found it incredibly depressing.
