I read the Baroness's letter to the CEO of Sainsburys and was unpleasantly surprised to note that Sainsburys appear to be doing away with male and female toilets for their workers. Sainsbury's is my favourite local supermarket and we spend several thousand there every year.
I wrote to the CEO asking if they were merging male and female loos and facilities for their staff and I've had this reply from an assistant:
^Thank you for your recent correspondence that has been received by our Executive's Office. I have been asked to look into your feedback and respond personally.
The information you have received about our customer toilets is not correct and I can reassure you that no changes have been made.
Our customer toilet policy hasn’t changed for many years and none of our female customer toilets have been removed.
We are proud to be an inclusive retailer and we regularly review our colleague policies as a part of this commitment. We recently updated our guidance on colleague toilets and changing rooms and this is based on recommendations made in the Equality Act 2010^
So I think that's an admission that they have done away with separate loos and facilities for male and female staff.
I'm incredibly busy for the next couple of days. I know I could do the research on loo provision and the 2010 Equality Act myself but if anyone is engaged with a similar fight and has the info at their fingertips I'd appreciate a couple of paragraphs I can cut and paste into my response to them. Thanks in advance.
