Remember the I Heart JKR Poster (Edinburgh) that got loads of complaints...

SaltandVinegarSquares · 11/09/2020 12:47

According to Network Rail they "received complaints" (plural) about the poster, and one complaint specifically stated "rampant transphobia".

Only it turns out, they didn't.

Not a single fucking one.

Liars.

158 complaints about it's removal though.

I wish MN had a Retweet function.

Stripesgalore · 11/09/2020 13:04

I find this far more depressing than if someone had actually complained.

Hangingbasketofdoom · 11/09/2020 13:04

Complaints about it being taken down will obviously not be ones saying it was transphobic. So, 158 people (I would assume mostly women) counts for less than zero people complaining about transphobia.

ArabellaScott · 11/09/2020 13:06

Shock. Wtf?

yourhairiswinterfire · 11/09/2020 13:06

@Quaagars

Only it turns out, they didn't Confused Just zoomed in and read that e-mail, where does it say that none of the complaints stated that it was transphobic? It just says that there was 158 complaints, and they're aware that there were conversations being had on Twitter but not all of them resulted in complaints being made. Can see nowhere where it says none of the complaints made said they thought it was transphobic?
They took the poster down because they said there had been complaints about it being displayed.

This confirms that they were lying about that, because there were no official complaints made about the poster being up (just some whiners on Twatter).

The 158 complaints were because of the decision to take the poster down.

Quaagars · 11/09/2020 13:06

It says they had 158 complaints about its removal. Zero about it being up

ah OK, just seen that.

Still not sure where they said they "received complaints" (plural) about the poster, and one complaint specifically stated "rampant transphobia". ?

Would like to know too like other poster the link for that one for reference

fatblackcatspaw · 11/09/2020 13:06

raging .. x 100

Quaagars · 11/09/2020 13:08

The 158 complaints were because of the decision to take the poster down

cross posted, realise that now

ArabellaScott · 11/09/2020 13:08

Ah, 'not all of these' were logged as complaints. So people on Twitter made a fuss, didn't bother their arses to actually lodge complaints, and this was enough for NR to take action. I see.

The complaints about the removal of the poster didn't lead to any action, I presume? How is it that some (unspecified number of) complainants on Twitter matter more than the people making the complaints officially?

yourhairiswinterfire · 11/09/2020 13:09

cross posted, realise that now

Sorry Quaagars, I type to damn slow Grin

Quaagars · 11/09/2020 13:10

This confirms that they were lying about that, because there were no official complaints made about the poster being up (just some whiners on Twatter).

Maybe no official complaints, but sounds like they took down because a lot did complain, even though it was via Twitter and not the official channel?
Then when they decided to take them down 158 people complained via the "official" way?
So not necessarily lying that there weren't lots of complaints in order to get it taken down.

Quaagars · 11/09/2020 13:12

Sorry Quaagars, I type to damn slow

S'alright, know what you mean, half the time I'm that busy typing by the time I press post about a dozen other posters saying the exact same thing as me got there first lol

ArabellaScott · 11/09/2020 13:13

Yes, as far as I can see they've treated Twitter messages as official complaints, for better or worse.

Beamur · 11/09/2020 13:17

Which still means they haven't answered the question. How many complaints were received via Twitter then?

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 11/09/2020 13:21

I find this far more depressing than if someone had actually complained.

Yes, I agree. Rude remarks on Twitter, but so what? The tweetbots don't represent public opinion. No, somebody decided to censor a woman speaking for women. Then when real people complain, just lie.

Redshoeblueshoe · 11/09/2020 13:22

So when are they putting it back up ?

ThinEndoftheWedge · 11/09/2020 13:27

I find this far more depressing than if someone had actually complained.

Ditto. It’s very sinister that even the mere thought of complaints made them capitulate.

I hope this gets into the press.

JellySlice · 11/09/2020 13:27

158 complaints about its removal

I like this point, because if you did not ask about how many complaints were made about its removal, then the person who wrote that letter chose to offer up the information.

DeliciouslyFemale · 11/09/2020 13:27

Yet they completely ignored all the people on Twitter that support the poster. You’d nearly think they were supporting the rights of one group of people over another, but why would that be? Surely not? I must just be talking bollocks. 😉

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 11/09/2020 13:29

I hope the foi request that they're late replying to (linked above) provides some answers about,

i) why they chose to cherry-pick certain conversations on twitter over other conversations on twitter,

ii) why they chose to give more weight to conversations on twitter than their own complaints process,

although it looks like they're going to try to wriggle out of providing the info requested craven cowards

queenofknives · 11/09/2020 13:37

What the fuck. The lying bastards. Fucking hell.

ChattyLion · 11/09/2020 13:43

Looking forward to seeing their big public apology for lying about this...?

RoyalCorgi · 11/09/2020 13:44

Ah, 'not all of these' were logged as complaints.

In fact, none of them were logged as complaints. They can't even get their story straight!

FreezerBird · 11/09/2020 13:46

craven cowards

Those are exactly the words I just used on reading this too. Lily-livered.

But, as a pp said, I do rather like the fact that whoever wrote that letter volunteered the number of complaints they'd received about its removal. Almost as if they were aware of the imbalance.

ChattyLion · 11/09/2020 13:47

Hopefully a journalist clocks this and asks them questions. Does this mean the poster can go back up then?
