Mermaids campaign against Spousal Exit Clause

Mermaids are showing their true agenda today by including the abolition of the Spousal Exit Clause in their list of priorities.

Taking away the rights of trans widows is completely outside their remit as a charity which supports children, I can't imagine people who donate to the charity think that this is the sort of thing their money will be spent on.

If anybody wanted more proof that Mermaid's agenda is being driven by adult transitioners who want to get rid of anything standing in the way of self ID, then here it is.

Has any religious group stated how they would treat GRC / self ID?

It would be interesting how some groups would approach this - an annulment or divorce. Division of assets / treatment of children / access to rites. The religious law differences and consequences of annulment v divorce.

Whilst we have the framework of UK law, we also allow some bleed through (official and unofficial) from religious courts ie Catholicism and Judaism. Sharia courts operate completely outside of uk law but are used widely internally, especially by women applying for a religious divorce.

So all faiths can use the UK courts to enact their divorce (if it is held as a legal marriage by the uk). Many women of faiths still want / require a religious divorce if they still want to participate (fully) within their faith / re-marry.

A good example of this is Orthodox Judaism - the Get. A legal document allowing a divorced woman to remarry (within the orthodox faith). Ultimately, a truly misogynistic document that the ex can withhold thereby leaving an orthodox woman in limbo - legally but not religiously divorced. Or leverage an unfair settlement.
