Sitting on bench outside library in small centre with my laptop. Turns out, building is closing and manager comes over to tell me.
Him: "We're closing now so please can you leave the building, love?"
Me: "Oh, right, yes of course."
Him: "Good girl."
I had the presence of mind to, in the moment, actually consider telling him that patronisingly saying "good girl" to me is entirely inappropriate, which is unusual for me - it's usually only later I consciously think about it. But I also made a conscious decision NOT to say anything - a mixture of not being up for the aggro and knowledge that he would absolutely not understand what I was saying.
In these situations, SHOULD we be saying something? I'm never sure.
I also realised afterwards it's the same man I once saw talking to a black male member of his staff while wagging his finger in the other man's face.....
