New Pantene ad

With Paris Lees saying strong hair makes her feel like a strong woman, or some such bolleux.

That’s annoying because I just bought two bottles of Pantene on offer and now I don’t want to use it. Guess that’s another brand to add to the ‘doesn’t care about women’ list. Let’s see what Pantene’s sales look like in a year’s time when only TW and woke PC babies are buying it.

I'm really not bothered about Paris Lees being in a shampoo advert. That alone would not necessarily stop me buying it and I would say it probably is transphobic to say you wouldn't use a product because a transwoman was in the advert.

However, the whole 'having strong hair makes me a strong woman' (if that is what is actually said) is just sexist shite, and would put me off.

Plus the Pantene/Women's Aid thing is a bit dodgy given Paris's history.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 30/08/2020 21:53

Should have stuck with Katie Piper.

StillNotAGirl · 30/08/2020 22:13

Since I am a woman I don't need anything external to make me feel like a strong woman

AbsintheFriends · 30/08/2020 22:19

Fortunately, regardless of who parrots the message, my ability to navigate the world effectively is unrelated to the 'strength' of my hair. (To the extent that it never even crossed my mind to consider how strong it is. How would one test such a quality? See how many press-ups it can do?)

Gingernaut · 30/08/2020 22:33

When Pantene first started to be marketed, waaay back when, they saturated the media.

Buses, bus stops, tube stations, tube trains, billboards, tv, radio - you name it.

They fucked me off so completely, that I swore I'd never buy Pantene.

That still holds.

Having said that, almost every ad seems to have some sort of virtue signalling bollox going on.

Babdoc · 30/08/2020 22:43

Pantene used to be pronounced panteen, and was a naff and smelly product used by my ghastly father in the 1970’s. I have loathed it ever since, so I am immune to any attempt to advertise it. But if I were a customer, I would most certainly boycott it after seeing such a crap advert!

ErrolTheDragon · 30/08/2020 22:56

Strong hair makes me feel like someone who regularly has to free the vacuum cleaner roller from its entanglement. Doesn't need Pantene or any other shampoo in particular to achieve this.ConfusedGrin

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/08/2020 23:04

I used to use Pantene occasionally when there was nowt else in the shop (before I developed alopecia-no connection, I don't think Grin).

Horrible shit, left a plastic filmy feeling on my hair, and I'd wake up to a dripping grease bomb the next morning.

I don't care who advertises it. The slogans are crap whoever's trying to flog it. Ellie Goulding used to piss me off with her 'train my hair strong' shite. (Just reading the script, I know, but still...)

SoManyActivities · 30/08/2020 23:13

To be fair, Pantene is shite anyway!

Oct18mummy · 30/08/2020 23:14

It’s the worst shampoo my hair is clogged and dirtier after I’ve used it

BaronessWrongCrowd · 30/08/2020 23:15

Agree. Horrible stuff.
GisAFag · 30/08/2020 23:46

I buy it if its on offer and is cheaper than Elvive. Does it matter who is advertising?

TitianaTitsling · 30/08/2020 23:51

Does Lee's not have convictions for assault? Bit disingenuous of them to have Lees swanning about like someone to aspire too and have the message about being against violence.

aliasundercover · 30/08/2020 23:53

I'm not bothered about a product being advertised by a transwoman, but I wouldn't want to buy anything advertised by Paris Lees

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 30/08/2020 23:58

I'm not bothered that she's in the advert but it isn't lost on me that the ad ends with the words "every bit the woman I am" and it's Paris Lees saying the "I am". I don't need Pantene gaslighting me into believing that PL is a woman. She isn't.

Anyway, it's all immaterial: I never wash my hair Blush

Namechangeforthis88 · 31/08/2020 06:59

Was it Paris who went on that Bear Grylls Island show and struggled to walk for more than a 5 minutes, or was that someone else?

merrymouse · 31/08/2020 08:01

Honestly, I find the 'here comes the science bit' from l'Oreal more annoying.

If Paris Lees wants to use Pantene to feel like a strong woman, great. I don't want to police how anyone feels. I'll disagree with Paris Lees about misuse of suicide rates, but I don't care about shampoo.

Yes I think it was that show that Paris was on - felt very weak and had to leave - there were a lot of very strong women on that island.
pepperaunt · 31/08/2020 08:27

What bothered me most about it was that, along with a woman surviving a serious assault and a professional athlete (strong women who’ve accomplished something) there was Paris Lees. Also, I’m pretty sure that “strong” hair is extensions.

RUOKHon · 31/08/2020 08:40

This is exactly my problem with it.

every bit the woman I am

Not seen the advert but just serves to emphasise that women never feel need to say such nonsense.

NearlyGranny · 31/08/2020 09:41

Not being Sampson, I've never linked my personal strength with my hair in my life. And I found the solution is to use shampoo and conditioner bars that are locally made and come wrapped in paper. No paying for TV ads, support for local craftspeopl and a reduction in the number of problematic plastic bottles in the environment. 😊

It is an advertisement and they are acting. Told what to say. I think you also have to have an Equity card for a speaking part in tv ads.
