Anyone else watching?

Would be good to talk about it here if so.

Jennifer it was courageous to tell your story. My heart goes out to you. I hope that you can build a life now for you and your children. Thank you for your bravery.

teezletangler · 31/08/2020 07:54

Oh my goodness Jennifer, thank you so much for telling your story. That was incredibly difficult to watch but I'm glad I did. You raised great points about the fact that the TRA "well meaning" approach is actually putting kids in direct harm's way by enabling and legitimising people like your ex. I am so glad he is out of your life and you are moving on.

MNX42 · 31/08/2020 09:27

A very powerful interview. Thank you for sharing your story Jennifer, my goodness you are an amazingly strong and resilient woman.

I wish you much happiness and contentment as you move forward with your new life.

My adult daughter also loved Harry Potter as a child but now apparently JKR is 'vile'. When you spoke about reading Harry Potter for hours, in the hope your abuser would leave you alone that night, I cried for you, and for the children being conditioned by this ideology, and for JKR whose heart must be breaking over the witch hunt she has endured.

RozWatching · 31/08/2020 09:57

I can't believe anyone who heard her story could parrot back TWAW.

Ikr, but people do, or they think that paraphilic and/or abusive men can't be "true trans", which is nonsense.

Jennifer is very brave, but thanks also are due to the women here who lent their spades to the hole which was dug for the Trans Widows Voices website, which in a roundabout way was what led to Jennifer feeling able to speak out.

I have said this many times but will keep saying it until everybody has really heard it. Hopefully I can say it here without being deleted:

AGP is a feminist issue. Attempts to rebrand it as a harmless solo pursuit should be seen for what they are- minimisation and gaslighting.

AGP is detrimental to women either directly because women are coerced into participating in sexual practices that they aren't comfortable with, or indirectly because AGP perpetuates and even celebrates an inaccurate and patriarchal version of female sexuality.

Additionally other women are forced into unwittingly participating when the AGP
individual is out and about being "one of the girls". This includes participation in feminist spaces - including this board.

Who would you rather have here contributing to the debate around sex and gender- Jennifer and women like her, or her ex? You can't have both.

There ate some very strange comments on that YouTube video.

Wombatmama · 31/08/2020 12:01

Yes TinselAngel, you are quite right about the strength, grounding and empowering force I was able to draw from you and others who built transwidows voices. If it weren't for the platform and the kind reaching out, I wouldn't have felt i had a safe place to tell my story. Sure, it is the ONLY place of it's kind in an atmosphere that seems hell-bent on our silence and/or vilification. I hope more and more of us feel safe to speak out, and if we stick together we can help everyone who is harmed by the current disasterous state of affairs.

I found your interview very powerful, informative and harrowing. Thank you for doing it. Just wow.
Wombatmama · 31/08/2020 12:10

I daresay the comments will get stranger and stranger and soon vicious. But I knew they would, I've seen enough horrendous behavior from those who claim to be fighting for the vulnerable and the wide out in the open, in everyone's face vile misogyny that some are insisting we imagine. It's all RIGHT THERE. It's been collected and shared constantly. But it never happens.

JamieLeeCurtains · 31/08/2020 12:12

Oh yes, the male rage and the tantrums ... it's so very visible now.

weaverbirds · 31/08/2020 12:21

Thank you for your astonishing bravery Wombatmama. I was/am so moved by your story but even more moved by your courage in speaking out so publicly and eloquently. Respect and love to you.

I can only see 1 critical comment out of 120?

That wasn’t an easy listen, but, I imagine, so much easier than living it. Thank you for telling us. Much peace wished for you. Your dignity shone bright.

Callmejudith · 31/08/2020 12:49

Thank you Jennifer for sharing. You are incredible

queenofknives · 31/08/2020 12:51

Jesus christ, this was one of the most harrowing things I've ever heard. I couldn't stop crying. I can only imagine the trauma Jennifer has been through. How astonishingly brave to speak out on it. Thank you so much for sharing this.

Shedbuilder · 31/08/2020 13:39

Just watched the interview and sending strength and courage and socially distanced hugs to Ireland for Jennifer. The thought that her husband is now abroad torturing another woman is horrifying. I hope the authorities in the country he has moved to can be informed of his past sexual abuse.

I'll be putting it on FB later today and asking people to listen and forward. I'll also be asking my MP to listen and comment because I think he has a very narrow idea of what a transwoman is and this might actually wake him up to the reality. I'm also going to it send to a couple of local councillors, too, and ask them what's the possibility of the of men like Jennifer's husband ending up in women's shelters — because surely that's exactly the kind of place where they will be looking for their next victim?

Disneydoll12 · 31/08/2020 13:48

Wombatmama, I just watched your video with GL this morning. You spoke so well, I broke down listening to you talk about reading Harry Potter to your children. I am so glad you managed to escape from that nasty abusive man.

As an irish woman i just want to say I am so glad you chose to speak out about your experience. Irish society always seems to stick its head in the sand on alot of issues sadly. I like to believe we have come a long way from the laundries but sometimes I'm not too sure......

Fossiliy · 31/08/2020 13:49

That was incredibly harrowing to watch at times - I can only imagine what it was like to live through it. I sincerely hope you are surrounded by warm, supportive people and that you are getting the support you need. Thank you Jennifer.

DialSquare · 31/08/2020 14:34

I've just watched the video. Wombatmama I'm so sorry that you went through that. It was very harrowing to watch let alone live through. I'm so angry that people can watch that and dismiss it. You are so right when you said "he was no ally but his own". They should hang their heads in shame. You will always have support here.

ZiffaRih · 31/08/2020 15:43

It was one of the most moving vids I have ever watched. I am sorry for everything he put you and your children through. I admire your strength & compassion, Jennifer. Thank you for sharing it.

TheSteveMilliband · 31/08/2020 16:19

@Wombatmama Thankyou for your immense integrity and bravery doing this interview, and for opening my eyes to your experience (and that of all the other transwidows). It was immensely harrowing to hear, I can't imagine how unbearable it was to live through. Very, very glad you have made it out and have proper support now. ThanksThanksThanksHalo

TheSteveMilliband · 31/08/2020 16:19

The halo snuck on! Unintended

Jellyeggs · 01/09/2020 09:16

@Wombatmama thank you for your bravery in speaking out. Solidarity from me, also in Ireland.
