Woman by Definition podcast

Kellie Jay hosted a livestream yesterday with a mum sharing her story about her child's ROGD transition. I couldn't watch it at the time but thought I would look at it later. I can't find it anymore. Did anyone else watch it? Does anyone know where it went?

I looked up “woman by definition“ on the podcasts app and found it. It is still there. It is from Thursday, I think if I wrote out the title of the particular episode it would be delete as the previous thread was.

AlbusSirius · 22/08/2020 12:20

Placemarking, as I can't find it either. I'm hoping she puts it up on her YouTube channel later.

JoodyBlue · 22/08/2020 12:28

@DaisiesandButtercups - thanks. I didn't see a previous thread . I usually look at the You Tube channel and it was there that I couldn't see it. I appreciate the response.

I am not loving her podcast in general. She spends way too much time shilling for money.

Delphinium20 · 23/08/2020 05:12

The story the mother shared was heartbreaking. I like Posie's ability to allow her guests time and space to share.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 23/08/2020 08:17

@Durgasarrow

I am not loving her podcast in general. She spends way too much time shilling for money.
I don’t think you mean her podcast? She does (perhaps more frequently than she used to) ask for financial support on her regular live stream.
JoodyBlue · 23/08/2020 08:37

I am grateful to her for taking a lead in telling people's stories and in providing a platform for knowledgeable informed commentary and discussion around the issues we are all struggling with around TRA. I think it is very courageous in the circumstances. It won't be free travelling to speak, offering merchandise to support a pro woman message. I don't feel she is making money for herself but to support her ability to do this work.

Cuntysnark · 23/08/2020 09:26

I don’t think she’s doing anything unusual asking for support, most of the YouTube commentators do (that I’ve seen).
It’s a heartbreaking listen but sadly not at all an isolated experience. Hats off to Kellie-Jay, I’m staggered that this story isn’t headline news.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 23/08/2020 10:13

I appreciate what she is doing so much. Her interviews are thoughtful and humane.

I too do not resent her asking for money to help with the work she is doing. Indeed, I get the impression that she finds asking for it difficult but understands she needs to. She is learning as she goes along how this whole thing works.

Anyway, anyone interested in a parent’s perspective on a teen transition should listen to this.

AskDan · 23/08/2020 10:34

I listened to it. I thought Posie did a great job on just listening to the mother talk. It was compelling.

RCBadger · 23/08/2020 18:40

FWIW, I watched on Youtube and you could see the mother very clearly. I think Posie may have taken it down to correct that very obvious flaw and then put it back up later.

queenofknives · 23/08/2020 20:30

I'm listening to it now. There is a note at the start to say she took it down to make sure it was properly confidential.

It is really heartbreaking. The mother sounds like she was quite controlling about a lot of issues. Understandably, because she was so out of her depth and was just trying to get her daughter to see sense. She gave her daughter so much to rebel against though. The father sounds like an absolute dickhead who made everything worse. Just such a nightmare for all of them. Really brave of the mother to tell her story.

queenofknives · 23/08/2020 20:48

I maybe sound a bit victim-blamey. I don't mean to say I think it's the mother's fault; I don't think that. It's just hard to try to get a picture and understand what the hell's going on from the outside. I think this is every parent's worst nightmare.

unwashedanddazed · 23/08/2020 22:36

I think it's very unfair to criticise her raising funds. She has created some great stunts exposing the absurdity of the ideology which have generated national-level publicity. None of that comes for free. She sells merchandise of good quality with an internationally recognisable brand in order to raise those funds.

So many activists just e-beg on PayPal etc. with nothing to show for where contributions go. I think she's done brilliantly to create the brand and it's clear where, and how well, the merchandise profits are spent.

OhHolyJesus · 23/08/2020 22:45

I've just listened. I feel so heartbroken for that poor mother. I feel for the daughter too, I hope she never feels she can't say she was wrong and go home.

She said there were thousands of parents like her. Jesus.

Roswellconspiracy · 23/08/2020 22:55

Heart breaking. Shows how easily it could be any one of us.

How even in a home where someone is there to notice. ( obviously working parents never intend to not have the time to spend with their children but its often the trade off for keeping a roof over their heads and tummies full and no one should feel guilty for that ) it can still happen .

So anyone who thinks it wouldn't or cant, well it goes to show that none of our children are safe really

I cant imagine being so powerless, knowing what we know but also knowing that when your child figures it out, they cant ever come back from it.

Its all just so heartbreaking Sad

I listened to this last night and it was very moving. It sounds to me like the mum wasn't quite as relaxed around gender roles as she wanted to make out. She sounds like a wonderful devoted loving mum who just wants the best for her children, but it also sounds like the daughter may have had a slightly more rigid upbringing around gender than was fully explored. That aside, it was a terrifying and heart breaking interview. It really got me at the end where she said that if you're the parent of an adult child thinking you dodged a bullet then think again, because your grandchildren will be next. I have young children and my son will start school next year just in time to be one of the first waves exposed to this via primary RSE. He's very GNC, loves everything pink/unicorns etc, very gentle and loving, a bit confused still over who has which genitals and why (like asking if he was a girl when he was born, or if his sister will get a willy when she grows up). I've been wishing over and over that he was born at a different time because I'm so worried for him. But she's right, no time is safer, no child is safe, as long as this is in our schools and tolerated on online forums. Her reference to the Pied Piper was spot on I think.

JoodyBlue · 24/08/2020 19:41

Just watched a live stream that Posie put on You Tube, she said that the platform had taken down this episode, so the place to listen to it is the soundcloud or one of the other platforms she posts to.

OP posts:
Roswellconspiracy · 24/08/2020 19:42

I cant believe it was taken down.

Well I can i guess but its one person's story right. Nothing to do with anyone else. What's the problem Hmm

PaleBlueMoonlight · 24/08/2020 19:47

Wow! They took it down. Does she know why?

EdgeOfACoin · 25/08/2020 06:33

YouTube took it down yesterday because it was "hate speech".

"Hi Kellie-Jay Keen,

Our team has reviewed your content, and, unfortunately we think it violates our hate speech policy. We've removed the following content from YouTube [link].

We know this might be disappointing, but it's important to us that YouTube is a safe place for all. If content breaks the rules, we remove it. If you think we've made a mistake, you can appeal and we'll take another look."

Glinner sent an email about it yesterday.

The audio version is still up on Kellie-Jay's Definition of Woman podcast on Podbean and Apple. It's heartbreaking (and not hateful!!!) - strongly recommend listening.

YouTube has a truly warped agenda.

EdgeOfACoin · 25/08/2020 06:37

Apparently she's appealed and they have said no.

EdgeOfACoin · 25/08/2020 09:59

Bumping this because people need to know that YouTube has condemned a video of a woman describing her experiences with her gender dysphoric child as "hate speech".

These are the things the mother raised in the video:

  • that her daughter knew that after 5 years on testosterone she would need a hysterectomy
  • that when the mother pointed out to her daughter that she might be dead by the age of 30 (because of the impact of testosterone on underlying hereditary health conditions) her daughter replied 'it will have been worth it'.

The mother also talked about a woman she knew who was told 'it is better to have a live son than a dead daughter'. The woman trusted the medical professionals and supported her child's transition, going along with hormone treatment and the double mastectomy. At 21, her child realised it had all been a terrible mistake.

This wasn't hate speech. The only thing that could - possibly - have come anywhere near that definition is the mother talking about the 'Pied Piper of Transgenderism'. I actually think that's a good description of Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria. And - really? When you consider everything that YouTube allows to stay up, that counts as hate speech?

Would that mother end up with a criminal record in Scotland under the new law?
