A Transchild, the Tavistock, Mermaids and GenderGP

Has anyone seen this:

www.gendergp.com/raising-a-trans-teen-podcast/

A quick synopsis is that Arthur first identified as male when they were six to seven years old. They did this by drawing a man and a woman then stating they weren't the "girl" but couldn't be the other and it couldn't be put right. Mum assured him it could.

Arthur had his first appointment with the Tavistock at seven and a half and after what Mum describes as "a battle" were prescribed puberty blockers at nine and a half (supposedly the youngest person to be prescribed by the Tavistock)

At about the same time Arthur, still nine years old, went to a Mermaids residential (presumably with Mum) where they met Helen Webberley and many older trans people. He left the residential constantly asking his mother "Have you rung GenderGP? Have you rung Norman Spack? When are we going to America?"

At some point, it's unclear when but Arthur was between ten and thirteen years of age, their relationship with the Tavistock broke down. The Tavistock had sent a letter saying that Arthur was too young to be making these massive decisions presumably in response to Arthur's request for testosterone. This led to a private appointment(s) being made with GenderGP where Arthur got his required medications put in place.

Today Mermaids tweeted a trans-friendly make up tips blog. Nothing unusual, for instance the last of the 4 tips is find the mascara that suits you... nothing but specially trans about it... but Mermaids are openly retweeting “GenderGP” and openly sending their followers to the “GenderGP” website.

Weren’t they asked to stop recommending the Webberleys?
Anyone know how often Mermaids retweet GenderGP these days?

I can see an Andrew Gillian tweet February 19 2019. “The lottery review into Mermaids claims there is “no evidence” it referred child patients to Helen Webberly, the criminal, now suspended GP.”

No, of course there isn't. Listing her as 'private support' on the page of resources for parents doesn't mean that they think parents should take their children to her for diagnosis or treatment.

This is back in February 2019 when one Webberly was suspended from practicing medicine while a General Medical Council investigation took place.

www.tnlcommunityfund.org.uk/news/press-releases/2019-02-19/outcome-of-review-of-proposed-mermaids-grant

At the end of page 18 and start of page 19. This allegation Is 10.3 (f) “Mermaids continues to feature the GP Practice on their website. This has the potential to cause misunderstanding and draw negative attention to the organisation given the controversial nature of the issue as well as leaving the organisation open to such allegations”. “Mermaids should consider the implications of this and review the appropriateness of retaining details of the practice on their website at least until the current GMC inquiry is resolved.”

Mermaids response is page 39
“Mermaids aver that they not refer directly to any private GP. Mermaids also do not, and would not refer, to any suspended GP.”
“Mermaids avers that linking to a private general practice page is different from linking to a page of a particular doctor, suspended or otherwise. If the practice is lawfully providing services and is regulated by the GMC then linking to it cannot bring the National Lottery into disrepute.”
“Mermaids keeps the information under constant review and if there is any regulatory or disciplinary issue with any practice to which the site links then Mermaids will remove any link.”

OneEpisode · 07/09/2020 22:22

Dr Mike Webberly was then suspended in May 2019, and GenderGP moved to Spain where I think Mermaids could possibly aver it was “lawfully provided services” according to maybe Spanish laws, but definitely not that it is “regulated by the GMC”. Because it isn’t. Because it’s not in the UK.
Helen W’s criminal conviction was December 2018.

The whole Big Lottery document is just unbelievable!!!

Helen Webberley is only interim suspended atm which means that there must be a substantive hearing coming up at some point.

gardenbird48 · 30/01/2021 13:48

Apparently the full hearing is in July this year. According to Trustpilot reviews there are a number of customer unhappy with the level of service she provides as well - quick to take the money but then response times are very slow.

Jesus Christ, let the child speak!

Arthur hardly gets a word in, the mum keeps taking over.

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

This is a bit concerning? Why would the mother conflate Mermaids with the NHS?

Marianne Oakes:
Can I just—what was your journey to finding GenderGP, if that’s not too big a question. It sounds like it was with the NHS before, would that be correct?

Anna:
Yes, Mermaids.

I think this is one of those times when the meaning is lost without hearing the tone.

If you listen to the audio, there's a pause between "yes" and "Mermaids". I think "yes" is in response to asking if they were with the NHS, and "Mermaids" is in answer to the more general question "what was your journey to finding GenderGP".

One thing I found interesting was the way certain behaviours were being praised in arthur - because these were behaviours/mannerisms that are praised in males and not females. Etc eating loads, being cheeky.

I'm sure when the little girl they have becomes a teen she would not be praised if she displayed those mannerisms. Similarly, if Arthur had not transitioned, did not have a trans identity - would these behaviours be seen in the same way?

ItsDinah · 31/01/2021 14:58

At what age did little Arthur stop believing in Santa Claus?
