Can you point me in the direction of a good UK intersex/disorders of sexual development group.

I have been directed to this group... any comments on them welcome (need to respond)

Hi

There have been quite a few threads about this - list here www.mumsnet.com/SearchArch?mustmatch=intersex&dontmatch=&nickname=&src_displ_option=s_t_d_t&fromDate=&toDate=&topicmode=chs&chosentops=5365

And this thread from earlier this year from Claire who is intersex has recent links - or you could pm her? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3819388-Intersex-support

Try DSD families. Watch out for the 'queering' of these groups, from what I've seen (very brief research about a month ago) they are very much captured sadly.

DSD families are definitely an actual charity aimed at supporting real people with real DSDs.
“Dsdfamilies is an information and peer support charity for families. Every year in the UK, approximately 150 children are diagnosed with Different, diverse (or as doctors might say, disorder) of Sex development (DSD). That means there are approximately 2,300 children living with DSD conditions in the UK.“

Thanks. The link seems to be twaddle about sex being a construct. It also only suggest two ‘intersex’ conditions - enlarged clitoris and micro penis. Nothing about any other condition. Lots about not wanting to be medicalised (I wonder why? Hmm )

Be aware that many people with DSDs may be entirely unaware that other people class them as 'intersex' or as a DSD at all.

For example, women and girls with Turner's syndrome would not necessarily have any reason at all to consider themselves any kind of a common group with men and boys who have Kleinfelters.

I know if a woman in her forties who has attended a lifetime of medical appointments for her Turner's syndrome, and had never once heard the term 'intersex' used in relation to her.

Those conditions and organisations that do ally themselves with other unrelated conditions under an 'intersex' umbrella, are more likely to have an agenda or advantage from such an alliance.
