Any evidence against teaching gender identity in Primary Schools?

Hello. I'm currently in written discussions with my LEA about various gender related issues and am trying to persuade them to advice the schools they're responsible for to not teach gender identity to the primary age group. Essentially because the risks to non-questioning kids out way the benefits to the very small % who are questioning; obviously without removing the LGB & kindness and tolerance to all aspects.

Does anyone know of any evidence to support my argument apart from Richard Byng's evidence in First Do No Harm given at the House of Lords, and anecdotal reports from Canada? eg anything from Abigail Shrier's book? Thanks

OP, Have a look at the Transgender Trend website - there's a wealth of informed and thoughtful analysis on there: maybe Katie Alcock's excellent piece on young children, reality, sex and gender is a good starter but there's lots more well argued evidence on there:

Also the Safe Schools Alliance has some excellent materials including about safeguarding. Arguable there are elements of emotional abuse in gaslighting little children to believe that they may be born in the wrong body and can get it changed. Psychologically / developmentally that's a massive lie to tell to little children before that are mentally mature enough to understand:

The safeguarding issues for children in schools and other organisations are the biggest issue for me of all the aspects of this knotty dilemma.

Heather Brunskell Evans, as well.

"Ironically, we were not to know when we wrote those words that the Tavistock would begin the backlash before the book was published.
The Tavistock first wrote to us as editors and to the publishers, requesting a pre-publication copy so that only “factual and accurate content is put into publication” and hoping we would “cooperate in order that the book is fair and accurate”. After we respectfully refused the request to vet the book, we then received solicitors’ letters which on the one hand tried to assure us that we would not be “gagged” but also threatened “potential consequences” if we did not work with them to ensure that the book contributed to the debate in what they described as a “positive manner”.

Great that you are doing this OP. Please let us know how you get on in case it can set a precedent for how to work with other LAs on this.

I’d say these papers point to children being vulnerable to suggestions from their environment www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3975255-New-psychiatry-papers-in-the-BJPsych-Bulletin-on-Dysphoria-in-children

Well done for doing this, OP. I watched a talk ages ago from Professor Michele Moore which I thought was very clear, and as she is an academic and educationalist I would hope she is a credible source for your concerns. I think it was given at a Women's Place meeting so is probably accessible from their website, or it may be on YouTube.

Thanks for your suggestions all. I'll keep you posted.

As for an explanation of how its not homophobic to say that lesbians can have penis.

Stonewalls defintion of homophobia defines it on the basis of gender identity, yet if you look on Wikipedia, defining homosexuality on the basis of gender identity is considered as institutional homophobia.

The whole thing is teaching kids that their sexual boundaries and preferences are bigoted if they dont fit the trans rule and this is homophobic at its core if it doesn't respect the fact that people have a sexuality based on sex not gender.

They are effectively teaching homophobia.

It's the age old "she just needs a good fuck" discrimination against lesbians.
