My Dutch friend sent me this. She got it from a video she thinks was filmed in The Hague - lots of English spoken so apparently not unusual for the sign to be in English. It's Lush products in the window anyway.

I'm wondering which demographic, by woke standards, would still be allowed in the shop!

Good to see sexism squeezed in at the end.

Cwenthryth · 25/07/2020 09:14

On the face of it this would be a great statement.

The problem isn’t rejection of actual transphobia. The problem is the attempt to define the defence of sex-based rights as transphobic.

Not happy to see Lush is going full Body Shop. I love their solid bubble bars. Grrr....

ahumanfemale · 25/07/2020 09:23

@Cwenthryth exactly. If you support the trans movement - as most woke people do - then you accept the idea that sex doesn't exist.

Does that mean you can't be sexist, because you don't recognise it exists?

Not likely.

So if you're someone who upholds sex-based tights, you're automatically anti-trans and if you are pro-trans you're automatically anti-sex based rights, so sexist.

I'd argue there might be more to it than this but find me a trans activist who agrees that being a man or woman is based on sex...

This reminds me of a sign at a cafe I saw last year. It had similar stuff and ended with 'all sexes welcome!'

Cwenthryth · 25/07/2020 09:27

Oh Lush has been lost to me for a long time sadly, I was a dedicated Lushie in my 20s, proper obsessed. However their treatment of female staff is absolutely appalling (whistle-blowing blogs are out there for all to read), and the final blow for me was their very badly handled spycops campaign.

So if you support the trans movement you don't care about sex-based oppression even though it has a giant number of victims on the global level?

I think that is probably not far from the actual truth.

If you support trans ideology then you are being homophobic and misogynistic. If you are against homophobia and misogyny then you don’t believe the trans ideology.

It’s possible to support trans people to live how they feel they need to live, if it’s recognised that sex is inherent and a transwoman is still male. Most uses of transphobia means not buying into trans ideology though and lush being what they are it’s likely this one they are using.

Also- ‘sexism’? Misogyny is the class oppression women face, just like racism can’t be a two way thing neither is misogyny. When men are ‘victims’ of sexism it’s normally positive discrimination women are allowed to use - like choosing female nannies etc- the same way affirmative action programs are positive discrimination. If it’s not this but rather negative stereotypes of men, then boo hoo, that’s no different to how commenting on a white persons skin is rude but it’s not racism. Using sexism where it should be misogyny makes it sound like women are on an even playing field to men and is the equivalent of being colour blind and erases our reality. Lush are complicit in that here.
