I do feel sorry for the caller herself, I do wonder how aware a (?middle aged) John Lewis shopper who doesn’t shop online, who phones in to a radio show in good faith, knew she’d end up being trolled and bullied by randoms on Twitter
She's not middle aged. This is know, because it was my daughter ( single parent). I've warned her to keep away from twitter....I knew as soon as she said 'John Lewis' she'd be getting dismissed as a "middle aged, middle class, right wing bigot". TBH, I'm not even sure why she rang in. She loves an argument and a debate, and can sometimes be contrarian.
She's inherited the J.Lewis thing from me. I don't like shopping for leisure, and I certainly don't like internet shopping...and can get most of what I want in there, all under one roof. She however, does most shopping on-line anyway.
I wear a mask when I'm in there...and it certainly won't put me off...although I agree it can get a bit uncomfortable.
What this episode evidences is how much people project on to what others say to suit their own prejudices and agendas, be they about age, class status, political persuasion, or whatever.
