GC Tweeple. Have you had any unusual activity on your account?

I have previously had a Twitter account shut down due to mass attacks by TRAs.

I am nothing special and had simply retweeted 'woman centric' tweets from other accounts about female death tolls, honour killings, sex crimes, FGM, atheist former Muslims and GC debates.

You know, the usual lols.

I have since had a new phone, new broadband and have since used a new email account to generate a new Twitter account.

I'm doing the same-ish again, with a protected account, secure settings and this time, following ad retweeting a far more diverse bunch, including pro trans accounts.

I've received an email to the old email address from Twitter, stating that there was a login or unusual activity on my old account.

I can't even log into that account any more. Should I be worried?

Who is GC Tweeple?

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 19/07/2020 13:57

Are you GC?

Are you one of the people on Twitter?

If so, you are one of the Tweeple or Tweeters on Twitter

I have no idea how Twitter works - maybe email support, if they have one, asking about this?

Are you sure it's not just a phishing exercise, and mass spamming emails? Does it actually name your twitter account, or just claim to be from Twitter? We get emails like that, purporting to be from Amazon or Netflix or what have you, all the time. If there's a clickable link then a claim like this could be a useful means of harvesting data.

That happened to me on my old account. Is there anything in the settings or private messages that link you to your real life identity or your new account? Do you use a secure email like Protonmail, or an less secure one such as Gmail?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2020 14:06

Was it definitely from Twitter? I think it's much more likely to be phishing.

Could be the account is associated with your IP address or device?
Do you have / use a VPN?

I'm having one of those 'Doh!' moments.

My blocked account was generated by using a gmail account with my name.

[email protected] That sort of thing.

My current account is linked to an older account that didn't use my name.

i have not replied to the Twitter email, nor clicked on any of the links, but the email looks genuine and looks like an email I received when I logged into my current Twitter account from my computer, instead of my mobile.

I can't log into the older, blocked Twitter account and have no idea about the password after all this time.
