You Know when you've been Stonewalled

Hi. I'm putting together a letter to my council to complain about its equality documents/forms which say there are 3 or 4 sexes.

The council is very proud of being high up on the Stonewall league, so whilst saying that I applaud their support for equality, I'd like to add some information about Stonewall suggesting that it might not be the best organisation to be judging itself against. This article by a cofounder of the organisation has some good points/ quotes:

Please can you point me in the right direction of any others? Thanks.

That's good, that's really good.

I just hope that lesbians on this board feel that more and more women are coming into the fold and ones like me are very angry that a group of men can so violently attack a group of women. No No No

Wow, really great article, sorry I can't recommend any more but you should do well with that one alone!

Its a very good article, but if you are challenging an organisation on their equality regulations focus on equality law, and keep your arguments short and to the point.
The person reading your email is going to be short on time and probably not responsible for the document you are complaining about. They will make a decision on whether to forward your complaint or not, and they'll be more responsive to a short statement such as -
''The claim that there are 4 or more sexes is not supported by equality law. The Equality Act states there are 2 sexes, male and female.''

Show how their policy breaks the law;
If they are collecting too much information that has no relevance, it could be a breach of GDPR.
If the policy discriminates against or removes rights from a group with a protected characteristic, it could be a breach of the Equality Act.

@Thelnebriati

have you posted in the right topic? Doesn't seem to match with the thread but I might be wrong

Thelnebriati · 19/07/2020 13:27

@highame
If we write to a public body about a policy, the person who reads our email is likely to be a secretary, and they may or may not forward the email to the person who is responsible.
So dont write a manifesto. Keep it short and relevant. Quote the relevant law they have to abide by.

OK?

@Thelnebriati

My sincere apologies, I got so carried away with the article I forgot about the OP's post. Apologies to the OP too. and, I haven't had any wine yet

Thelnebriati · 19/07/2020 13:37

No worries Smile
Try to imagine being the person who opens the emails in the morning and who has to sort out which ones to deal with first. How do you grab their attention?

Jeeeez · 19/07/2020 14:29

Also no worries Smile
I might just write a sentence at the end with a link to the critical article.

A broef alert, couched in polite, neutral language, that they are breaking the law should do the job effectively!

this was posted on another thread, it would make a good template;

In the Diversity Monitoring section of your job application you ask for the sex of the applicant and include the options 'Male', 'Female' and 'Intersex'.
