Hi everyone,

We haven't bee around much on MN recently, we have been a tad busy. We are doing lots of work behind the scenes as well as constantly working on new resources for parents, writing to MPs, helping people who contact us directly and supporting teenage girls in taking legal action. And we have all been juggling work and homeschooling our kids along with the rest of the nation.

Here is a useful 'update thread for those who don't know us.

Recently we wrote to Asda following The DRM debacle and had a somewhat conciliatory response. None of our direct questions were answered though.

Are inbox is full of parents sharing their concerns about the new RSE curriculum. We wrote to Gavin Williamson to share these concerns. If you also want to write, please feel free to use our letter. We shared just a few examples from a number of organisations selling training and materials to school, apparently unchecked by any government department. This is a serious oversight in Safeguarding.

One of our members wrote to her labour MP, we would really appreciate it if other with Labour MPs shared a version of what she sent as it covers all the issues. We have been dismayed by
Labour's willingness to set aside the rights of women and the safeguarding of children.

We have also been disappointed with the teaching unions failure to safeguarding child and so wrote to the NAHT who told us that they wouldn't be replying to us in 14 days because they were too busy.

A new resource people may have missed was our critique of Stonewall's home learning pack. Its clearly damning.

Our spokeswoman Tanya spoke to Sonia Poulton about what's going on in schools and what people can actually do to ensure safeguarding is put at the heart of all school policies. If you prefer to watch rather than read, you can get an easy run down in around 10 minutes.

Some of our supporters (well one woman in particular has been on a mission but she has had some backup) has been busy writing to LEA using our template letter to let them know the Oxfordshire Trans Toolkit written with Allsorts had been withdrawn pending legal challenge. You can see how many councils are backing down here. Use the list of councils which have withdrawn guidance to ensure its not still in your schools.

The legal cases are not over either. The case against the CPS is still live and we will have more news to share shortly. The case against Oxfordshire has been resolved (although OCC is still a Stonewall champion, the battle has not yet been won) and they agreed to pay a proportion of costs. That means there is some money in the fund to help support similar legal action.

There is loads more so please make sure you are following us on our social media. Twitter and Facebook

If anyone wants to get more directly involved we always have a really long to do list and not enough hands so please feel free to DM me.

Fantastic work SSA! It must be exhausting but those of us who care about children are very appreciative and glad you have our backs.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 14/07/2020 17:11

Well done Thanks

truthisarevolutionaryact · 14/07/2020 17:15

SSA really have made massive inroads into not just raising these safeguarding nightmares but in getting toolkits etc withdrawn. Huge thanks to all of you involved.

Jeeeez · 14/07/2020 17:15

Thanks for the update on the councils that have caved meaning I can update my complaint letter to Sheffield CC that I'm just finishing writing.

I discovered version 2 of the Genderbread Person whilst doing this, and discovered that apparently there are now an "infinite" number of labels for describing your sex! Including "Female self ID"... er, right....

💪💪💪 great work

2fallsagain · 14/07/2020 17:26

@Jeeeez do keep us in the loop with Sheffied. And good luck. Do I want to click on Genderbread person mark II? Hmm

OhHolyJesus · 14/07/2020 17:27

I just saw the quick video you did with Sonia Poulton.

Really clear, would be great to share it so more parents become aware.

2fallsagain · 14/07/2020 17:28

Oh god, I clicked.....

It makes no sense whatsoever. Can you imagine already confused teenagers trying to make head or tail of it.

Great work!

I have brain scramble from that genderbread graphic.
The sexual orientation bit (which of course does not use the term sexual orientation) makes no sense at all and seems to indicate that gay and straight are the same and both leaning towards men. And of course they are because lesbians don't really exist and everybody's a bit iffy about women generally aren't they?!

highame · 14/07/2020 17:30

You can see how many councils are backing down here. Use the list of councils which have withdrawn guidance to ensure its not still in your schools.

Have tried this link but it doesn't give me the list. Any ideas?

2fallsagain · 14/07/2020 18:19

Sound be in the write to your Lea page. This is the latest list

In the light of the recent news that Barnsley, Birmingham, Denbighshire, Derbyshire, Doncaster, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Leicester, Merthyr Tydfil, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Somerset and Warwickshire local councils have withdrawn their ‘trans’ guidance for schools, we are encouraging parents and carers to check their own county council’s trans policies, check them against our Equality and Diversity ‘Red Flags’ factsheet, and contact them if they are concerned.

I am adding v2 of the Genderbread Person to my letter as it's such a pile of woo sh*t that it instantly proves what drivel they're 'teaching' kids.

hungryhippo · 14/07/2020 18:40

Barnsley, Birmingham, Ceredigion, Denbighshire, Derbyshire, Doncaster, Essex, Flintshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Leicester, Merthyr Tydfil, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Somerset, Warwickshire and Wrexham have withdrawn their guidance as of 14/07/20.

Cuntysnark · 14/07/2020 18:44

Great work! I just hope their tactics don’t become more devious & less transparent.

HandsOffMyRights · 14/07/2020 18:51

Thanks so much.

My son's school uses both DRM and Stonewall. I did send a detailed complaint, but the head is standing by them.

At work I see a young gay male teacher inspired by Moffatt and Sean Dellenty (hope the latter is on your radar too) and pushing their regressive resources at parents. He's concerned over homophobia and transphobia, but there's no mention of sexism.
The whole Trust is on the verge of using No Outsiders.
Moffatt is being heavily promoted to SLTs and education leaders across Birmingham and Warwickshire. Still.

There is much to do, but your actions, templates and determination inspire us all.

SunsetBeetch · 14/07/2020 18:51

Thank you so much for all you've done so far. I'll be supporting you whenever I can.

ThatsHowWeRowl · 14/07/2020 19:15

Oh wow, thank you so much! This has now reached my kids primary school and I have voiced concerns about how gender identity can be taught to kids without relying I stereotypes and am waiting to hear back. It's the first time I have ever spoken out on this! But I do feel it's a bit futile talking to the school as this stuff is coming from higher up, so am looking into what else I can do, so this is really helpful.

Newuser123123 · 14/07/2020 19:17

Thank you for everything you are doing x

hoodathunkit · 14/07/2020 19:27

"Our spokeswoman Tanya spoke to Sonia Poulton"

Was David Icke unavailable or something?

Seriously what were you thinking?

CaveMum · 14/07/2020 19:34

Thank you for your great work.

FemaleAndLearning · 14/07/2020 19:40

I've found the SSA resources so helpful in writing to my primary school and meeting the head. SSA gave me the confidence to stride forward and challenge the school. My eyes are now wide open.
Thank you for working so hard to safe guard our children.

2fallsagain · 14/07/2020 19:52

Hood have you actually listened to what Tanya said?
