Trying to remember a film...

In the 80s (perhaps) not in English (French?) but subtitled, about a boy who wanted to wear skirts. I think it was more of a drama than a comedy. I seem to remember it ending with him happily wearing a kilt at a family event.

Ring any bells?

Is it Ma vie en rose ?

I think that may be it.

Interesting to see that the Wikipedia entry uses feminine pronouns to describe Ludovic - clearly the article has been edited to do so, as they've missed one or two, whereas the original BBFC entry uses masculine pronouns.

I don't think any of us watching it in the 90s thought that Ludo was anything but a boy. We thought that his family were homophobic and controlling for not allowing him to wear dresses. We all thought he was experimenting with his self-expression, just as many of us did at the time.

I'd like to see it again. I wonder whether I would interpret it differently.

In retrospect, I've got to the point where I realise that emotions were manipulated by a singular viewpoint in various dramas and films. I can think of some moving relevant storylines in Law & Order and that ilk.

ADA Alexandra Cabot initially gave a plea bargain for Cheryl [born Charles], but she was sentenced to a prison for men. Cheryl refused to stop taking female hormones and didn't accept protective custody, so Alex took away Cheryl's plea bargain. At the end of the trial, Cheryl was found guilty and sentenced to a prison for men at Riker's Island. It was reported later that Cheryl was gang-raped at Riker's Island and rushed to a hospital.

In retrospect, although I don't recall the episode, I know Ally McBeal Diagnosis Murder Eli Stone Bones all featured sympathetic storylines. Likewise a fair number of comedies.
