Covid biological risk factors and trans

So a friend's place of work (public sector) is categorising staff by risk to gradually bring people back into the office. Men 55+ are highest risk, there appears to be no age related risk for women. So my 56 year old female friend is low risk and will return sooner than the men.

I joked she should say she identifies as a man, but seriously, what would they do? Would they have to admit that there is a biological difference?

Little bit off topic but I read this great article that current research indicates that there may be an association with oestrogen levels and severity of the disease. So post-menopausal women were more likely to have a more severe case than younger women. The researchers didn't have enough data to comment on oestrogen effects for transwomen.

Nothing to do with trans, but from what I can see, poverty is the worst risk factor for covid

poverty is the worst risk factor for covid

Agreed. It's a strong risk factor for many non-communicable diseases as well.

I'd say keeping clean is a HUGE factor.

Women tend mainly to wash their hands after using the loo.

Men generally tend not to.

Women will wash their hands during and after domestic chores - at home and at work. Men - even if the number is fractionally different- do not (× the male population of the UK and Ireland in Covid-19 times, it matters)

Virus's like Covid-19, SARS and MERS can be removed from the body by washing hands and body, washing clothes at high temperatures, staying at a distance from other bodies.

Anecdotally, men are still less likely to change their work clothes, wash their hands, stop having sex with people other than their partners.

It's one for the Socialogists to study.
