When a crime is committed by a trans woman...

...is that crime committed as being recorded by a woman ONLY if the person has a GRC. Or is it recorded if that person simply declares they are a woman.

And if the latter who don't write to about that? Head of the Met? Local police forces? I'm trying to untangle one issue at a time and this is my current one

Therefore - any record of a woman being convicted of rape in E&W, other than by joint enterprise, must be a transwoman logically.

Yes.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/07/2020 11:34

And in Scotland I think. Any Scottish posters please correct me if I'm wrong!

BigChocFrenzy · 06/07/2020 12:07

TRAs keep claiming there are only a few studies showing that TWs offend at the same rate as other men
..... which is because for years now they haven't allowed statistics for TWs to be recorded separately !

ValancyRedfern · 06/07/2020 12:08

Following as I'd love to write as well.

BigChocFrenzy · 06/07/2020 12:09

and we get the ridiculous situation of women victims having to refer to their attacker as "she"

BigChocFrenzy · 06/07/2020 12:11

Presumably child victims, not just adult women, would also be told to refer to their TW attacker as "she" ?
Great way to further screw up victims of violence

I know we can logically work this out but maybe we should seek this in black and white from the police. A freedom of information request:

  1. How many women were charged with the crime of Rape in the last ten years

  2. How many of the offenders in answer to question 1 were trans women (male born people)

  3. What is the written policy on recording the sex of an offender where they identify as a different sex.

  4. gets a figure, 2) will probably get a "we don't separate the data so don't know" which is damning in itself, 3) will get official guidance on the matter.

Do you have to pay for FOI requests?

You’d need to specifically separate out joint enterprise convictions also or the answer will include women assisting/enabling men to rape.

A good idea but you'd have to approach every police force.
Last time I looked the Office of national Statistics and the Ministry of Justice produced statistics on sex offending from 2018.
I cannot imagine why they haven't been updated for 2019 yes I can
But I know that they will be inaccurate and misleading about crime when broken down by sex. Because all police forces allow adults to self identify as whatever sex they choose - no matter how appalling their crimes are. To add insult to injury, the Ministry of Justice then consults trans groups about which women's prisons these sex offenders / murderers etc should be placed in! I'm never sure why trans groups have been given such power over placements of rapists etc. I suspect if they consulted women's groups concerned about the welfare of vulnerable women in prisons there's be a very different outcome.
It's an unacceptable mess and the losers (as always) are vulnerable women in prison.

It is quite easy to put in a FOI request via this website. It's important to get the wording right as forces do try to obfuscate, but I am sure there are people on here who can help.

Someone asked Dorset police and this was the answer:

When a crime is committed by a trans woman...
calllaaalllaaammma · 06/07/2020 13:54

When Maria Maclachlan was in court she was made to call the defendant Tara Wolf "she" by the judge after they assaulted her at speakers corner.
This shows that the victims are made by law to play along with their attackers self-identity.

PurpleHoodie · 06/07/2020 17:09

As Cwenthryth says:

Be sure to ask for the difference between those who could only be convicted for rape on joint enterprise (because they are female) and those convicted because they are recorded as "women".

PurpleHoodie · 06/07/2020 17:12

In relation to the Dorset one for example, the question could have been

How many women have been arrested/charged with rape etc

Or

How many males who call themselves women have been arrested/charged.....? also,
how many females have been arrested/charged.....rape....?

Same also for sexual assault.
