I have created a blog to highlight the work of Madeline Linford (1895-1975) , the first woman journlalist on the editorial staff of the Manchester Guardian where she worked from 1913 to 1953. In 1919 and 1921 she visited post-war Europe reporting on the devastating starvation and disease in Austria and Poland. In 1922 she began editing the first Women's Page. She also wrote drama, film and literary criticism. In the 1940s she was a picture editor for the paper. In its obituary in 1975 the Guardian described her as "one of the most remarkable newspaperwomen of of her time." Despite these achivements she has been largely forgotten. I have written a biographical sketch and transcribed a selection of her journalism. madelinelinford.wordpress.com/
