Am watching. Had to turn off when that woman was telling what had happened to her.

But turned it back on as felt I should listen.

Actually brought me to tears

I don't think trial by jury is appropriate tbh. Maybe 3 expert judges would be better.
Some of the arguments used by the defence are appalling.

3% of rapes result in convictions

6% of reported rapes go to trail

Victims phones and messages used against them by defence

Women saying to the victims commissioner that the trail felt worse than the rape.

Juries should be trained not to belive in rape myths which the commissioner believed were embedded in society and also trained on what consent means

That poor woman she was covered in cuts and bruises had a boot mark on her back.

He was found not guilty

My ex was arrested at the beginning of the month after I made a statement to police.

I definitely feel like I'm on trial.

The fact they want to download my phone fills me with terror.

I was watching, that poor woman had to go through the worst process imaginable and then had to go through it again only for him to be let go. It just shows how society does not value women and does not believe us

It is so shocking. To be completely honest I don't know if I would report a rape if it happened to me. Especially not if the rapist was a partner (and therefore more likely to be dismissed). I don't know if I could put myself and my family through all of that knowing that there's a high chance the rapist would walk free.

Sorry militoc 💐💐💐

Milotic · 02/07/2020 21:31

I wasnt going to report mine to be honest.
I left and I was happy to leave it. Then he kept me up for four nights threatening suicide. I kept sending the police round.

And on the fourth night I'd had so little sleep and was hallucinating dementors off Harry Potter at one point and it just came out when I was talking to them about the suicide threats.

Part of me wishes I hadnt. And I hate saying that because I'm so aware of how easy it is to be made to question yourself. I dont want to put other women off reporting.
