Just spotted this on my email this morning...

Coppafeel breast cancer charity using gender identity language

Yeah, whoever made that Venn diagram clearly doesn't understand how Venn diagrams work!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 26/06/2020 15:25

That Venn diagram is hilarious - I don't think they know how they work.

Highperbolay · 26/06/2020 15:50

That shadow photo I posted upthread has also been posted on their Instagram and the original artist of the photo has commented to say thanks - the original artist posted it on her own page on.... International Women's Day. 🙄 She did actually get a bit of pushback on it in the comments and replied with the usual 'not all women have periods, not everyone has XX or XY chromosomes so being a woman has nothing to do with biology' bullshit.

Whhhhhyyyyyyyyy!

Part of my friend's work involves creating awareness campaigns for various conditions for the NHS. This work includes measuring how the public responds to these campaigns, which groups are hard to reach (typically marginalised and disadvantaged) and what gets the message across to the largest number of people possible.

All of this "gender neutral" bollocks is massively decreasing the effectiveness of health awareness campaigns. This means an increase in preventable deaths.

The bizarre thing is that there is already a tried and tested method of decreasing preventable deaths in hard-to-reach groups - campaigns tailored specifically for that group and carefully targeted at them by taking it directly to those groups.

That could have been done here. There's a reason why it wasn't.

I don't understand that Venn diagram.

It seems to be saying that the only people who have breast tissue are those who have been assigned male AND assigned female at birth?

Or do I need more caffeine to make sense of it?

user1477391263 · 26/06/2020 16:12

And "Coppafeel"--really???

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 26/06/2020 16:30

I agree Charley. And hard to reach men are likely to interpret that as "the men who get breast cancer are the ones who identify as women & take hormones, so I don't need to worry".

Greenandcabbagelooking · 26/06/2020 16:59

My Year 7s could draw a more accurate Venn diagram.

Breast cancer does not care if you wear a skirt or trousers, are called Eric or Ethel, or like pink or blue. Anyone can get breast cancer. It's more common in females. How is that hard to grasp?

fruitbrewhaha · 26/06/2020 17:23

For a health charity they have a worrying lack of knowledge regarding biology and are incompetent at drawing a Venn diagram.

Neither of which are that difficult really.

merrymouse · 26/06/2020 17:24

It's just wrong.

Nobody assigns anyone a gender at birth, and even if they did it wouldn't have any impact on your chances of getting breast cancer.

Taken at face value, the Venn diagram is saying that some people are assigned female at birth and some are assigned male at birth. A minority are born with breast tissue and they are assigned male and female in equal proportions.

newrubylane · 26/06/2020 17:25

That Venn diagram is enough to put me off them. Your whole job is to inform people about breast cancer and you come up with that...?

merrymouse · 26/06/2020 17:43

It doesn't make sense even on their own terms.

"Biology doesn't define what a woman is"

"The risk of breast cancer is much higher in people who were assigned female at birth" (why were they assigned female at birth? because it was Tuesday?)

"1 in 7 cisgender women will be affected by breast cancer in their life time". (And people who don't identify as 'cis'?)

The only people they don't mention are people who haven't had surgery or taken hormones, and who don't 'identify' as female - either because they identify as trans or because they don't identify with gender woo.

When are people going to educate themselves about how offensive gender ideology is?

Highperbolay · 26/06/2020 18:10

"Biology doesn't define what a woman is"

"The risk of breast cancer is much higher in people who were assigned female at birth" (why were they assigned female at birth? because it was Tuesday?)

Yes, this is a rather large contradiction isn't it?

I'm still cringing at that Venn diagram too.

It's such a shame because it really is a great charity and has raised loads of awareness.
