The Listening Project wants more trans voices - but not women's - for British Library Archive

I loathe this programme. Posh BBC trying to be all at home and folksy with ordinary people.

Was about to switch off today when it came on after the news, but heard them mention feminism.

Of course it turned out not to be about feminism but about how trans women are women, blah, blah, blah, blah. All very BBC being woke.

Then they added they reallly wanted more trans voices and urged trans people to get in touch, as it was so important for the British Library archive.

So not future historians will think 99% of the population was trans in 2020 as they pack out the archive with a disproportionate number of trans voices.

No request to hear from women who feel they are being stigmatised, ignored and erased, as men's rights are prioritied.

If you can be bothered to listen it is the first conversation.

The BBC is in serious trouble, partly because everyone and their dog are making their own podcasts and some are quite good.

The solution is to create our own listening project, obviously not use the same name, but the concept behind it is not exclusive to the BBC

Call it Voices From the Edge of Reason or something and make something to rival the BBC.

We cannot compete with their wildlife programmes, which are excellent, we may not be able to make something like Peaky Blinders, also excellent. but hte listening project is just an archive of recordings. Nobody has a monopoly on it and it is one thing we could really do very well IMO

I'm sorry you switched off - there was a gender critical conversation too!

I turned on halfway through and there was a fantastic Scottish lady who clearly stated the importance of single sex spaces for women. She was given a chance to speak without interruption. I was super happy to hear this on R4.

In fact I did hear her as that is part of the artifice of the programme, getting too people to talk to each other in an artificial "conversation".

And after she made her clear statement about why women need single sex spaces the response of the BBC is totally to ignore her / women's voices and say how much they want to hear the trans experience.

She might as well have not have spoken. Totally invalidated by the presenter.

Also can’t bear the Listening Project. I find it mortifying. I don’t know why Fi Glover is involved with it.

I think it is actually a good thing for the BBC to create an historic record of how they supported and promoted gender ideology. It will be poured over with fascination and disbelieve in years to come.

I'm taking the wins whenever I can. The important thing is to get the message out there. The BBC has had a tendency to only show happy trans narratives, so I'm happy to hear alternative viewpoints aired. And I hope this represents the start of a change in how the topic is covered.
