Are people aware of the pushback by TRAs against Liz Truss' decision to shelve plans for amending the GRA2004 to allow self-ID?

Looks like we need another campaign.

@OhHolyJesus @SisterWendyBuckett I’d like to incorporate this in my emails also, would be interested to know the background information. I’ve heard the 70% was an inaccurate ‘stronghold’ scenario.

Sorry if my language isn’t quite right, it’s been a long time since I’ve had to express myself with the written word. Toddlers murder your brain.

@SisterWendyBuckett* @GrossePois*

This is the text from the Sunday Times. Whilst the article was about a leaked plans I took this to mean that that the consultation responses were skewed and so it will not be viewed as a realistic 'taking the temperature' exercise on public view. MPs who respond with that that statistic need further questioning of its basis and whether they thought the consultation was well-advertised, fairly written and if prior to the release of the consultation had those writing the consultation met with women's groups? (You can complain about public consultations I believe through Better Refulation.)

"More than 100,000 responses were received to the consultation. Insiders say about 70% of those backed the idea that anyone should be able to declare that they are a woman or a man. However, officials believe the results were skewed by an avalanche of responses generated by trans rights groups."

No one can deny now the influence "trans rights groups" (notice they didn't write LGBT) have in government.

I suspect the government equalities office groups will be particularly aware and I look forward to the meeting minutes from the meetings that follow this announcement in July.

Thanks OhHolyJesus - that's really helpful.

A consultation is not the same as say, a referendum. Even if a majority of responses are in favour (to any given proposal, not just this one) but the minority raise issues that show potential problems, it's nonsense to say it's undemocratic to proceed. The whole point of a consultation is to canvass opinion and flush out unseen pitfalls.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 19/06/2020 15:22

Just to say I got a security notice from Firefox on that 'email the PM' link, it wouldn't connect me to the website.

I generally use 'They Work for You' to email MPs, etc.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 19/06/2020 15:24

That's not the SNP's definition of a 'consultation', sadly. Sturgeon has said the purpose of their recent GRA consultation was to re-educate people.

BlooperReel · 19/06/2020 15:38

I've emailed number 10, I am still not confident its a done deal and the TRA's will try any and everything

I'll look forward to the Brexit style referendum somewhere around 2030 that asks the electorate the question 'Is biological sex real'?

Should be fun! Shock

Beamur · 19/06/2020 16:50

OvaHere
Because the last referendum was so good at bringing together different factions and opinions.
