Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is he saying that feminists and victims of sexual harassment are to blame for young men having less sex than a generation before?

I am new to feminist debate. This week was the first time I looked at the feminist board on Mumsnet (thanks to JKR tweet) since I became a member some 6-7 years ago. I came here to educate myself on the current transgender debate. I am still trying to get my head around it, so I adjusted my news feed to include articles on feminism and transgender topics.
Immediately, I came across this post:

Feminism and the ascendancy of the MeToo movement serve as constant reminders of the inferiority of male identity. This sentiment is most strikingly expressed through the negative qualities associated with the term ‘white man’. In these circumstances, it is not surprising that many men become hesitant and defensive in their relations with women. Defensiveness can lead to adopting the strategy of avoiding disappointment through disengagement from sexual interaction.

Am I reading it correctly? - as openly misogynistic. I know that a fair portion of men assign blame to women for their own actions, but combining it with all the hate women are getting on media ATM, I am starting to wonder: when did you notice the tide turning?

Sorry LardiLa, but could you explain what you mean by the tide turning in this context?

Addiction to porn is the reason men are having fewer sexual relations with women, even the ones who are married, according to the psychologists.

Utter bollocks.

Porn and in some countries there is a shortage of females due to sex selective abortion

I also suspect that living life mainly online in gaming forums and not mixing with the opposite sex IRL reduces opportunities for forming romantic attachments (and hook-ups). Having reductive attitudes to women and expressing entitlement to sex also makes you much less attractive. Get off your PCs, learn some manners and get out into the real world.

I keep reading in the media, not only RT, a lot of opinions that are openly misogynistic. So started wondering since when we as a society are tolerating it? Was it always the case and I was oblivious to it or something has happened in society to allow for it?

Yes, I did lookup RT as I didn't recognize the name. I see they have their own agenda now. Still misogynistic. And political.

Given the calibre, interests and self-absorption of some young men it doesn’t surprise me at all that a lot of young women have no interest in them.

But I acknowledge that there’s a lot in there that I haven’t considered. One of the things could be is how boys and young men are not achieving academically as well as their female counterparts. Being a bright and well-educated young woman with ambition won’t really lend itself to dating some loser who spends altogether too much time gaming.

Then there’s the incel-types who view women through a very particular lens where a lot of women don’t look for the same in a prospective partner.

Whatever the reason, it’s women’s fault

Society has always been a simmering pit of misogyny I think, but its gone down a steep hill recently. To quote the fabulous JKR "men everywhere seem to agree: women are asking for trouble". The idea that men are avoiding sex incase they accidentally shag someone who opposes white male supremacy is hilarious. I'll believe it when I fucking see it. And even if they are, I couldn't care less. All that means is fewer twats in the dating pool. It reminds me a bit though of when people say things like "#MeToo was bad for women because now employers are scared to hire women incase they accuse the male staff of sexual harassment". No thought at all given to the idea of maybe hiring fewer men until they stop sexually assaulting the women, no, just hire fewer women until they stop reporting on the men. Male sexual violence in a male dominated space is treated as a given, and the only way to protect those men from being punished for it is to exclude the women. Not protect the women from experiencing it by excluding the men. Bit of a tangent, but the language around "women keep standing up for themselves and now the poor men are too afraid/sad to do x, y, z" really pisses me off. You want women to stop pointing out white male supremacy (or maybe just "male supremacy" as I haven't seen any evidence that men of colour are less prone to these behaviours) - stop doing the things you're getting called out for!

I don’t think the tide is turning, misogyny is widespread and just takes different forms. Women participate in it too.

feelingverylazytoday · 16/06/2020 07:55

Addiction to porn, and financial independence of women are the two main reasons, I would say.

LardiLaLardiLi · 16/06/2020 07:58

@boatyardblues

I agree with that. Internet has done nothing to improve social skills.

Given that forty years after willingly having sex any woman in a fit of spite can claim she was 'raped', and actually be believed, it is not surprising that men are becoming wary. My advice to young men today, pay women by the hour, and get a contract signed beforehand admitting it is consensual

If you read the comments you can see exactly the type of men the article appeals to. There have always been men who hate women, especially feminists, but I think this is probably the first time they have had a collective voice via the internet.

The men's magazines used to be full of that same misogyny in the 1950s. Same accusations too.
