Made For TV movies and Male Violence

Hi there. This is my first thread so please bare with me.

Recently I have been thinking about how some women were brought up with movies where the message was "one day my prince will come" whereas other were brought up on TV movies that would never be made by the big Hollywood corporations because of their honesty regarding male nature.

Whether you are the type of person who believes male nature is caused by biology or socialisation (or both) isn't necessarily relevant to this thread, but growing up I watched a lot of low budget made for TV movies. These movies cater towards women apparently, but they reveal a lot.

The Stranger Beside Me (1995) is a peeping tom/serial rapist. It abandons the stereotype rapists are always given such as the man in the movie is handsome and married. He's not some hideous freak hiding in an alleyway waiting to pounce. This movie is based on a true story/book written about the story.

My question is, do you think these types of movies are helpful? Many of these men are not stereotypes and most of these movies take place within "normal" settings. Hollywood wouldn't dream of doing movies like these.

Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings lol.
