My professional Twitter has been mercifully free of gender woo (apart from the Chartered College woke brigade), but this week some quite influential people have supported anti-JKR posts and today my union (headteachers) has tweeted about a school’s diversity week, which is dominated by the T and includes Owl and Fox and Olly whateverhisnameis.

I am coming out as GC socially, but lacked courage so far professionally. As a first step, I would love to be able to support others who are braver than me. The kindness message resonates so strongly with teachers, it is really hard to challenge.

As a start Transgender Trend & Safe Schools Alliance UK - both excellent sources of information and resources and both campaigning to safeguard children in schools

Kiri Tunks - co founder of WPUK - is a teacher and I believe (not 100% sure) she's an elected NUT officer.

Thanks. Do already follow TT and SSAUK, but not on my prof twitter, so that would be a good place to start [why didn’t I think of that?]! Will find Kiri now. Thank you

Yes Kiri Tunks was President of the NEU last year. She is awesome.

Debbie Hayton (transwoman) is also going up as LGBTQ officer for the NEU this year. Unsurprisingly there has been a petition set up to stop the wrong sort of transwoman getting the job...

The fact the government is not changing the law and keeping separate spaces for the sexes gives you leverage. I think just explain it clearly. It is NOT that we don't care about trans-identifying children and adults but that children of both sexes have RIGHTS to single sex spaces and why is that?

Get clear about SEX and GENDER and that all children have rights, none get to trump each other. Talk about puberty and physical changes that make children self-conscious and vulnerable. Also how dangerous gender stereotyping is. Maybe include in your presentation photos of people who are non gender conforming, famous lesbian and gays and those that step out side gender norms, to reassure children there isn't ONE way to be a girl or boy.

I believe another MNer did a presentation giving the GC view and it quickly resulted in the school stepping away from the Mermaids bandwagon. Quite honestly many people are not being presented with the GC side and they are confused. They deserve to hear a clearly articulated, reasoned explanation. If you can get a nurse, doctor or social worker on board to help you explain everything and for more credibility that might help.

It is fear unfortunately that is keeping us quiet.
