Stop Funding Hate

Hi everyone, I rarely post on Mumsnet these days, but I am a bit shocked at an interaction I had with the organisation Stop Funding Hate yesterday and today, and wanted to flag it up.

A few days ago on Twitter when the whole JKR thing kicked off they were sharing some posts that showed quite clearly they thought JKRs words were hate speech. Yesterday, after the Sun's front page they posted something saying how it was abhorrent (which obviously it is), and encouraging people to complain about it. I thought that was a bit hypocritical so tweeted them saying something like 'do you think you've contributed to the toxic atmosphere around this subject by labelling JKRs words as hate?". 30seconds later they blocked me.

So I went and, politely, posted the same thing on Facebook. A few likes later and they deleted it. I posted it again, they deleted it again. Someone else posted saying that all critical posts by women had been deleted. Now they have changed their settings so I can't post again.

I recall they also likened Mumsnet to Breitbart a while back.

Not sure what the point of this post is other than to vent really. Women are being silenced by men everywhere. I am absolutely despairing.

A lot of lefty, social justice type groups and organisations are like that. It's totally ok to hate woman and use disgusting, dehumanising terms and slurs for women they don't like or disagree with. And then in the same breath parrot something about violence against women.
They don't like it if you point out their hypocrisy.

JustTurtlesAllTheWayDown · 13/06/2020 09:57

They've been deeply problematic for a while, and have shared some horribly misogynistic posts in the past.
I was also supportive of them when they started but stopped following after I saw them piling on women and promoting stuff that really was hateful.
It's quite ironic really.

It's particularly ironic because they advocate for an honest media, and yet they're happily censoring people that question them, left right and centre. I looked up their Board and one of the women on there is Iman Atta from Tell Mama UK. I am going to try and email her and bring it to her attention. I know it's a small thing, but actually it's not. Absolute misogyny and hypocrisy. Thanks, i feel better for venting.

This.

Follow Luke & Ryan Hart @CoCoAwareness instead. Their mum and sister were murdered by their dad after years of coercive control and abuse. They are extremely passionate about highlighting abusive behaviours against women.

I tend to be left-wing but over time I've seen the hypocrisy and misogyny in leftist circles. They spout so much about media spreading lies, and criticise those on the right as if they have the moral high ground, and then you see how they deliberately cover up any criticism or dissent, and actively try to stop genuine facts from getting in the way of an ideological narrative. Refusing to engage in discussion and debate. Expecting everyone else to do as they say, but never bothering to look at things from the other perspective. It's all one-sided.
And the past few years has opened my eyes to how little women and women's rights matter to the Left. Anything can be thrown under the bus to preserve an ideological narrative.

CourtneyLurve

Thank you for highlighting Luke and Ryan.

It has really opened my eyes, I feel very naive. I just thought organisations set up to do public good would be actually morally straight, or at the least be too embarrassed to openly show that they are not. It's that whole thing about there is no shame in doing terrible things anymore, it's like politicians.
I follow the Harts, I agree they do some very good work.

I have come to realise that the current "anti hate" movement is anything but, it's a huge magnet for angry abusive people.

I supported them to start with but have also unfollowed them on FB. They promote the hatred of women with boundaries.

Stop Funding Hate can so easily become Defund Organisations I Don't Like.
