I'm sick of men speaking over women

All the fucking time. Not just Redmayne and Radcliff but on tv, in meetings, interviews, debates. All aspects of life men seem to be the booming voice and women get to nod along because they get ignored and talked over when we speak.

Tell me about it. A facebook friend just posted his belief that TWAW. No, problem, dear. Because he'll never have to handle the consequences, will he?!

ShiveringCoyote · 11/06/2020 14:27

It's the equivalent of all the rich white celebrities posting BLM.

Yep. I mean its even worse when men get together and decide what a women even is.

I mean come on.

Also sick of seeing women say perfectly polite and rational things and receive abuse then men come along say the same stuff and engage in "polite conversation"

And also sick of men sitting back and saying nothing and doing nothing leaving it all to women and girls to sort out and then complaining they arent centred.

Just piss off

I've had this on two work meetings today already. I'm starting to not be so polite when it happens. It makes me fuming especially when they repeat what I have just said.

HandsOffMyRights · 11/06/2020 15:05

Me too, along with women who prioritise the penis, aka #SheforHe

OvaHere · 11/06/2020 15:12

Even The Spectator, who are broadly supportive of the GC viewpoint, couldn't find any women to write a piece about JKR, The Body Shop and menstruation.

I'm aware there are people on here who like Dr Hayton but please ask yourself why we are not centred in our own issues even by our supposed allies?

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 11/06/2020 16:04

when they repeat what I have just said

oh fuck, aye. Slightly rephrased, with a question mark, to just insist that you agree with WHAT YOUVE JUST FUCKING SAID.

Me and a female colleague, along with a male colleague did an experiment once with a sexist boss. One of us women would make a suggestion and it would be brushed off, the man would make the exact same suggestion and it was taken seriously. It was infuriating!!

At the time I just accepted it, now I would NOT let it go unchallenged.

Thesuzle · 11/06/2020 17:20

Ahh I’ve found my tribe xxx

TheShoesa · 11/06/2020 17:20

Bit like this...

pachyderm · 11/06/2020 22:17

I have had this experience. Saying something funny in a meeting, in my quiet female voice, and the man next to me repeat exactly what I said, and getting a laugh from everyone!

LockdownLump · 11/06/2020 22:35

Oh I commented on one of the JK stories in the Mirror and someone called 'Stephen' said 'I think you need to calm down love'

Cheeky little shit.

Not just being shouted over in conversations, but also in fucking written comments - which I suppose is just Twitter all over though isn't it.

Yup. Recently I questioned the consequence of a proposal which was dismissed by the man chairing our meeting as unlikely and irrelevant. EXACTLY the same point was raised by a man at the following meeting and the same chair said approvingly 'Good point, Graham '.
Graham always dominated the discussion despite the fact he was outnumbered by intelligent and articulate women in meetings about 3 to 1. He was widely regarded as a bit of a git with some dodgy views but the chair still couldn't help but stroke his male ego.
