The JK Rowling situation is stirring up a lot of anger in me and I don't know where to talk about it. I'm not a big social media user but I would normally have no issue with, say, liking a post that chimed with my (generally left wing) political beliefs, without fear that I might be adversely judged or attacked. The fact that I only feel comfortable talking about these issues anonymously speaks volumes about the truly frightening situation we are in.
Anyway - I have been reading up on personalised medicine (for entirely unrelated reasons) recently, and something that comes up again and again is the increasing recognition of sex differences in the way diseases present themselves, and the need for treatment to be differentiated accordingly.
Fast forward to the not to distant future when sex-differentiated treatment becomes mainstream, where does this leave a medical professional trying to treat a trans woman with heart disease? If the patient is now legally a woman, would the doctor risk being accused of trans exclusionary if they recommend a programme of treatment that is optimised for the human male?
