How many of you read the Times' article on health today about the (putative) link between menopause and Alzheimer's?

Essentially the research suggests that because male and female brain health are co-mingled in most studies, as they are quite similar, neuroscience is missing the effects of menopause and oestrogen in female brain health and female brain health maintenance.

Women endure Alzheimers and other neuro-degenerative conditions at a level 30- 50% higher than men. Some of it is greater longevity. But the rest? A new book The XX Brain by Dr Lisa Mosconi attempts too explain the differences and some of the biases. There's a big article in today's Times (2/6/20) Health section for those who want to know more.

Brain-imaging studies show that women seem to start getting Alzheimer’s earlier than men.

I've (peer) reviewed enough studies/trials on the topic of biomarkers and brain imaging studies for Alzheimer's and the other forms of dementia to wonder why Mosconi is quite so confident about this.

I didn't review this one but it's interesting on the topic of MCI and Alzheimer's and why brain imaging is not yet sufficient:

I'd need to read the book but I doubt I'd be able to do it any time soon. I'd be interested to see what some neuroscientists make of it over the next month or so.
