Vicky Ford on Transgender guidance...

In response to my question;
Not Covid but still important; given Oxfordshire and Shropshire Councils and the Crown Prosecution Service have all withdrawn Guidance on Transgender children in schools over the last few days due to legal challenge, and that the Crown Court agreed it was ‘arguable unlawful’ prior to Oxfordshire withdrawing their guidance. Will the government now be ensuring that all such guidance is withdrawn and replaced with guidance that protects all children including the privacy, safety and dignity of girls and fairness in girls sport?

Vicky Ford, Minister for children answered
I know this is an issue that is very important to some of you. This issue falls within the Government Equalities Office’s brief and the Government’s response to the Gender Recognition Act will be published in the coming months. Sorry not to be able to say more at this time.

So the Minister for children has no interest in whether schools follow illegal guidance that puts girls at risk.

Was this a reply to a letter from you?

PaleBlueMoonlight · 15/05/2020 21:23

It was what the children's minister said in the mumsnet chat this afternoon.

SarahTancredi · 15/05/2020 21:28

I saw that.

I cant believe there was nothing to tell.

The geo removed its logo
Cps withdrew its guidance
Toolkits have been removed
No one under 18 has a grc
Anyone without a grc is legally their birth sex
Equality act allows for single sex exemptions even with a grc

So what's so difficult...

And whys it down to "someone else" all the bloody time

Someone take responsibility

At least she answered your question. She dodged all the teacher ones. She seems to have no interest in children's’ lives either.

Aesopfable · 15/05/2020 21:32

At least she answered your question

I wouldn’t call that an answer. But I suppose she did respond to say she wouldn’t answer...

I would say she has answered your question and yes, whilst it does affect children it does make sense to wait until the government's response is out.

Did you really think you were going to get any other answer at this stage and as a teacher and a parent I was more interested in the questions regarding the children going back this week.

Aesopfable · 15/05/2020 21:35

it does make sense to wait until the government's response is out

Why does is make sense to continue putting children at risk and use illegal guidance? What would make sense would be to withdraw any such guidance now.

it does make sense to wait until the government's response is out.

Why? What does unlawful guidance for schools have to do with a consultation which doesn't affect children?

ChloeDecker · 15/05/2020 21:35

I wouldn’t call that an answer. But I suppose she did respond to say she wouldn’t answer...

I agree, none of her answers actually answered anything but she seemed to actively avoid the questions from teachers re: the current issue, which was what the webchat was about and then it was ‘out of time’.

As Minister for Children, she is not answerable to grown-ups.
