I know Jackie Doyle-Price has spoken out on GC issues before, but I was pleased to see her tweeting in defence of Glinner, and expressing concern about the Tavistock.

I've looked at JDP's twitter a few times. She seems very good on a number of issues. If she were my MP I'd vote Tory.

scotsheather · 21/04/2020 21:51

Was it her that said teens with Autism often use identifying as another character as a defence to the condition? I wonder if those inter-related issues are explored in any meaningful way in supposed GD.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 21/04/2020 23:14

Hm, those lead to some interesting Twitter threads. MPs discussing the matters, and ratios swinging wildly in favour of gc views. I think I see tides turning.

ChattyLion · 22/04/2020 01:15

Good for her. Great she is openly tweeting about this, might encourage some other MPs to openly discuss these issues.
If any of us has a spare minute can we email her to encourage her?
It’s very very important that MPs know the strength of feeling there is behind this whole area and I am delighted and relieved that she is listening and that she’s in the majority party of government too. As a former public health minister she is absolutely the type of MP who will understand this issue in the context of the health system and the safeguards we already have- which are not currently sufficient to protect children who can’t fully understand the implications of what they are ‘consenting’ to.

Scrolling down from that tweet, I saw Jane Clare Jones respond to one by John Nicolson MP. Nicolson was offering to debate the GRA and trans rights with Jonathan Ross on tv. JCJ was pointing out that, if he was interested in discussing women's rights, maybe it would be a good idea to ask some women what they thought.

It's a bit of a trend, isn't it, this idea of men discussing women's rights together without actually bothering to talk to any women.

MrsSnippyPants · 22/04/2020 10:24

Jackie is getting a lot of support from non-Conservatives on Twitter, which is good to see. She has said she has talked to (ex?) Tavistock clinicians too and is openly supporting LGB Alliance.

I do feel a shift, I did before this pandemic. This is why we must keep supporting those who are speaking out, and as ChattyLion said supportive emails are good, as are cards in the post.

Carowiththegoodhair · 22/04/2020 23:22

I said this on another thread but politicians going on record really does count which is why so much firm pressure and unpleasant tactics are applied to those who do.

BatShite · 25/04/2020 18:54

I find it quite interesting that the new TRA style of attack seems to be linking puberty blocker usage..and abortion. Because of course, they are the same issue Hmm

BatShite · 25/04/2020 18:54

ah sorry, didn't realize this thread was dead,..not sure how I got it up if its from days back!

Winesalot · 25/04/2020 19:03

Actually it seems like a well known lawyer and dr haddock are predictably agitating again. Calling for constituents for Jackie Doyle-price to force a meeting at the next surgery after lockdown lift.

ChattyLion · 25/04/2020 22:31

The abortion scaremongering ‘analogy’ is bullshit. They forget rad fems understand and support safeguards around consent. It’s part of their DARVO constant framing of feminism as the bad guy.

Allowing kids and teenagers to ‘consent’ to undergo damaging permanent ‘treatment’ of unknown effectiveness is NOT in line Gillick assessment of competence.
Absolutely no child has the maturity to understand the full ramifications of the risks they are taking on, (losing fertility and sexual function, lowering their IQ, loss of bone density etc with some of these treatments) and indeed many of the risks are still unknown anyway. Partly because TRAs oppose research..

Completely different to a girl found by her doctor to have the maturity to weigh for herself the risks and benefits of proposed treatment to end a pregnancy, ie capable of making a Gillick competent consent decision. Also perhaps relevant that having an safe legal abortion at any gestation is known to be less physically risky than going through all of pregnancy to term and birth.

AnyOldPrion · 26/04/2020 13:26

It’s part of their DARVO constant framing of feminism as the bad guy.

And it fits in with their attempts to paint us all as right-wing Christians.

As well as accusations we’ll be agitating against abortion, there have been accusations we’ll come next for lesbians and gay men.

It does get tedious!

WPUK statement:

(extract)
Young People

We are pleased to see the Government recognise the very serious concerns regarding young people suffering from gender dysphoria. In particular, we have highlighted the huge increase in young women being referred to specialist gender identity services. We would like to see appropriate support from trained professionsals for young people with gender dysphoria as they move into adulthood.

The principle of Gillick competence established that parents have no right to veto medical treatment to which a minor, fully understanding what is proposed, consents. The statement by Liz Truss has no bearing on this principle. Having the maturity and understanding to consent relates to:

“the complexity and importance of the decision to be made. A young person who has the capacity to consent to straightforward, relatively risk-free treatment may not necessarily have the capacity to consent to complex treatment involving high risks or serious consequences.” (GMC, 0–18 years: guidance for all doctors).

As a feminist organisation we fully support the Gillick test of competence, as well as the Fraser Guidelines which specifically relate only to the issue of giving contraceptive advice and treatment to those under 16 without parental consent." (continues)

“Bu-bu-bu puberty blockers are completely safe and entirely reversible! (If I say it enough times it becomes trueeee)”

FWRLurker · 26/04/2020 17:35

Re the above post for any lurkers - of course I am aware of studies showing puberty blockers are reversible if used to treat precocious puberty only until the age of a normal puberty (10 or 11). However is there no evidence (because no studies done) on whether it is reversible the way it’s used in gender clinics, where children are put on puberty blockers starting as children or young teens and kept on for years into their late teens.

What data we do have from Tavistocks internal report indicates failure of the bones to become more dense as in peers allowed to go through puberty, as well as increased suicidal ideation
