So sick and tired of hearing JG bringing up the old trope that Men suffer domestic violence too, when introducing an organizer of a group of women only refuges. This happens every time the subject is under discussion. We know perfectly well who are suffering the most from male violence, and we should be able to say that on a programme aimed at women, talking about women. It sounds as though there is some male, speaking into JGs ear and gaslighting. Every time,

There probably is, or a woke female producer telling her to keep mentioning the menz.

Reminds me of this excellent, evergreen piece of writing by Dr Jessica Taylor from 2018, 'Stop Asking Me What About Men'.

Sorry to jump in on this thread but I want to donate monthly, to Women's Aid probably, unless there is a 'better' one to donate to? I prefer one that only supports women and children. Message me if that's more sensible.

Socrates11 · 14/04/2020 21:24

Not sure. Have a Google as there may be groups local to you. On Twitter Jean Hatchet and Karen Ingala Smith raise money for women only charities, so I'd have a read of what they suggest.

Socrates11 · 14/04/2020 21:46

Well not got much further. Got a local women's aid charity & a rape crisis near me.

Jean Hatchet and her Ride for Murdered Women raises money for the NIA project of which Karen Ingala Smith is CEO.

Thanks I'll check these out 😘

The BBC has fallen prey to the full spectrum of wokery. It's all about "inclusiveness" and nobody is allowed to speak truthfully. They have their own prescriptive language (notice that reports of violence against women and girls now rarely uses the words men, male, man - instead using neutral terms like people and persons).

We all know what's going on, and we all know what the statistics are.

Lets keep calling it out and reminding the BBC of their duty to be truthful.

YogaFaker · 15/04/2020 17:30

I heard that too, and I really thought - from her tone & emphasis - that Ms Garvey was saying that under sufferance, and only to stem the stream of "What about t'menz" moaning from MRAs and captive women.

DangerCat01 · 15/04/2020 17:40

That was my interpretation too YogaFaker

nauticant · 16/04/2020 10:03

Today's programme: How can women keep up appearances (ie beauty regimes) during the Coronavirus crisis?

BuffaloCauliflower · 16/04/2020 10:05

JG is generally not in for wokery (have you heard her speak on the trans debate? Definitely gender critical) she’s said before that every time they do a feature about DV someone will call or email saying ‘men too’ so now I think she just says it to get it out of the way and get back to the actual issue in hand

aladyofinderterminateage · 16/04/2020 10:13

If she was allowed to give percentages/statistics and use male/ female that would be great.
And to state clearly the same information pertaining to perpetrators and victims.

Angryresister · 16/04/2020 11:10

Yes I agree that it’s under sufferance, but it still grates badly that a couple of letters from offended men are taken more seriously than frequent emails from women . And yes those figures need to be stated every single time.

missproportionate · 16/04/2020 11:24

They get calls texts and tweets saying this every time the do DA so I guess she's fed up and is pre-empting that to get it out of the way.

nonsenceagain · 16/04/2020 12:10

Definitely under sufferance and in a pretty dismissive way. She said something like 'there, I've said it now' and got on with talking about women.

Saisong · 16/04/2020 12:21

Re the BBC there was someone on the news the other day talking about the increase in domestic violence. He mentioned 16 deaths during lockdown, but not the fact that they were all women and children who died at the hands of men.

Charley50 · 16/04/2020 13:14

DV was discussed on WH today. Again it was person and people rather than women.

YogaFaker · 16/04/2020 13:21

the fact that they were all women and children who died at the hands of men

Oh you can't say that! It might upset t'menz Shock

nauticant · 17/04/2020 10:06

Today's programme has kicked off with a discussion about porn with people speaking on favour of its consumption (I think) and against.

HorseRadishFemish · 17/04/2020 13:39

I'm sure I heard one of the contributors mentioning "ethical porn" but if she gave details of particular sites I didn't catch it. I think to make that claim (that such a thing exists) needs to be more rigorously challenged. Missed opportunity there I thought.

Angryresister · 17/04/2020 23:37

There didn’t seem to be lot of discussion about why we think abuse of children is wrong while that of women is somehow acceptable. No questioning about why so many think it is a great idea. No challenging of the mostly male users at all.

OP posts:
CurrentBun1981 · 18/04/2020 04:08

Surely it's because children are below the age of sexual consent.

Angryresister · 18/04/2020 11:42

So you reach 18 and suddenly content is assumed?
