Rainbows

Is anyone else happy about the changed meaning of displaying a rainbow at the moment?

For the first time in ages, my heart lights up, rather than sinks down when I see a rainbow in a window. They are mostly hand drawn by children and are a lovely message of solidarity and hope.

I wonder if Stonewall, Pride etc are a bit miffed about 'their' symbol being taken away (however temporarily)?

In the bible, the rainbow was a covenant between God & living things: the promise he’d never try and kill us all again. So it’s an interesting symbol to adopt during Coronavirus!

It started with the Window Wanderland initiative. Every week the children are given a subject and they put the resulting artwork in the window for people to see.

Last week was Rainbows; this week is Sunsets, I think, or simply Sun. it’ll be interesting to see if they keep their rainbows up, or change them each week.

Ah, are they changing every week? Would make sense as a rolling classroom activity.

I was thinking what they could use - it's not just rainbows, bees are taken after Manchester. Butterflies maybe? Easy to draw an outline and have kids colour them in.

Maybe a doctor and nurse?

I know Animals and Easter is coming up. I’ll rout out the list later.

My mother said last year that she was sad rainbows had been appropriated.

My feelings exactly. It has been hard work avoiding it when buying clothes for my nephew!!

At my workplace rainbow pins and lanyards are an unwelcome reminder that my workplace has been Stonewalled.

Pictures of rainbows drawn by children to make people happy are absolutely beautiful and make my heart smile.

I'd like to believe that the rainbow is being reclaimed, I really would, but I'm afraid Barrackers warning about pronouns is sounding rather loudly. There is a risk that it is yet another way to lower the barriers to safeguarding. Let's not fall asleep and make Rainbows another form of the drug that can't be named.
