I cannot, for love not money, get a link to this column in this week's Radio Times. Suffice to say RL is talking about freedom of speech, the right to be offensive etc. I have taken photos of the relevant parts, hope you can read it.

I heard one of these programs the other day, sounded interesting but was on at about 5am and I wasn't listening properly.

It's a world service series of 5 programs.

nauticant · 20/03/2020 19:06

I've always loved Robin Lustig. When he stepped down from The World Tonight it was like the end of an era.

RobinL · 20/03/2020 23:37

I've reposted my Radio Times article on my blog. Here's the link: lustigletter.blogspot.com/2020/03/the-future-of-free-speech.html

And by the way, you may be interested in my Robin Lustig reading stories podcasts. Perfect for both adults and children with time on their hands. You can access them here pod.co/asmr-robin-lustig-reading-stories or via any of the usual podcast portals.

OOoo! Thank you RobinL !!

"The Future Of Free Speech"
Courts and the right to free speech

www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/w3ct0748

Released On: 18 Mar 2020 Available for over a year

"Robin Lustig begins his journey in Washington DC where the first amendment is housed in the National Archive and serves as an almost sacred document. In this programme he asks how Courts around the world make decisions on Free speech. Can they find a line in the sand that shouldn’t be crossed? How do they decide what is, in the modern parlance, ‘hate speech’ and what is merely strongly expressed personal opinion? And can they ever be more than extensions of the political environment they inhabit?"

ThinEndoftheWedge · 21/03/2020 06:06

Many thanks! Will look them up!

AnyOldSpartabix · 21/03/2020 07:02

Thank you Robin.

AnyOldSpartabix · 21/03/2020 07:04

And Davros too. Free speech is such an important issue.

nauticant · 21/03/2020 11:08

How wonderful to see the guest appearance (assuming we're not having our leg pulled).

Great to see you contributing to BBC World Service Robin. I'm beginning to wonder whether that channel should be a model for BBC Radio 4. More news- and fact-focused, less about the personalities of presenters, less ideology being shoehorned in.

LindaSmithfanclub · 21/03/2020 11:16

Thank you, Robin Lustig, for speaking up on freedom of speech. Here's another who misses you from Radio 4.

StarintheMorning · 21/03/2020 12:08

I do hope you are THE Robin L, because you clearly have a bit of a fan club on here, and I completely understand why. I miss hearing you on R4.

Thank you for throwing some light on the free speech issue, I shall listen on BBC Sounds.

Binterested · 21/03/2020 12:12

OMG 😍

Davros · 21/03/2020 13:56

If it isn't genuine RL I doubt if he would have linked to his article and other stuff. I'm going to be listening to a lot on BBC Sounds so I'll add the stories to my list. I just audited our cleaning stuff to The Now Show with no live audience - weird!

Thank you Robin!

RobinL · 21/03/2020 16:53

Let me just reassure everyone that I am definitely not an imposter. And I hope you all get a chance to listen both to my documentary series and the podcasts. If you subscribe, you'll never miss a new episode. (And they're on YouTube as well. Just search for Robin Lustig reading stories.)

ThinEndoftheWedge · 21/03/2020 17:02

SmileSmileSmile.

Had a listen to the first episode, www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/w3ct0748. That was great.

As a related point Robin, are you aware of the Maria MacLachlan case? She was physically assaulted by a transwoman (a male-bodied person) at Speakers' Corner. She was there to join a meeting to discuss proposed changes to UK legislation. The transwoman was there, in their own words, to "fuck up some TERFs [this term referring to women having a political view the transwoman objected to]". Their respective ages, MacLachlan: 61, transwoman: 26.

In the trial of the transwoman for that violent assault, MacLachlan was not able to always keep on track of using the "correct" pronoun of "she" for her attacker and as a result MacLachlan was firstly critcised and then sanctioned by the judge. In this way, as a result of MacLachlan (the victim of a violent assault) giving the evidence of what she had experienced and seen with her own eyes, and giving it truthfully, she was punished.

Here's an detailed account, from the side of the assaulted woman:

popehilarious · 21/03/2020 21:22

I saw this in RT! And meant to post here. Surreal seeing Harry mentioned in RT, but heartening.

RobinL · 22/03/2020 00:06

@nauticant I think you'll be especially interested in the second episode of the series, to be broadcast next Wednesday, which focuses on universities and includes a section on the trans debate on UK university campuses.

nauticant · 22/03/2020 08:16

Sounds good Robin. I'll give that a listen too. Keep well.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 22/03/2020 09:22

Thanks for the link, Robin!

RobinL · 25/03/2020 10:24

You can now listen to Episode 2 of my Future of Free Speech series. This one focuses on university campuses, including the trans debate at Oxford and the student unrest in Hong Kong. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/w3ct0749

OneEpisode · 25/03/2020 11:47

I’m looking forward to hearing Robin on episode 2. But I got distracted by the previous “The Compass” range, “Being”. I’ve just listened to MeToo in Mexico, next is Poland..

ArriettyJones · 25/03/2020 11:49

I've always loved Robin Lustig. When he stepped down from The World Tonight it was like the end of an era.

Oh yes. I’m sure that when my insomnia got started TBH.

But good for him in being another voice of sanity now.
