Well- this is a welcome break from
corona.
This is a great documentary about the rebellion by feminists of the Miss World competition.
Inspiring.

Enjoying it. Also wondering what moisturiser Michael Aspel uses (87!) Smile

grafittiartist · 16/03/2020 21:53

I’m just starting to watch. Loving these Feminist women. Glorious !

grafittiartist · 16/03/2020 22:03

Inspiration aren't they! I really enjoyed that.
It's so sad though, that 50 years later, and not so much has changed.

I loved that, brilliant, will try to watch the film (Misbehaviour).

Didn't know that there was a film- thank you!

Excellent film. The most amazing thing was that anyone ever thought Bob Hope was funny. Most of the women came out of it well, contestants and protestors but I'm glad beauty contest have largely died out, apart from in America with their creepy kiddie pageants

Campervan69 · 16/03/2020 22:37

Really enjoyed that. Loved hearing from the feminists. So wonderful that they were doing all that as I was born to pave the way for the equality of opportunity I have enjoyed throughout my life.

Thank you amazing women.

I really enjoyed it too. I read the thread on Misbehaviour last night which I think is about the same thing:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3848305-misbehaviour-what-a-fantastic-film

The documentary was really well done. I was also struck by how much more the contestants and protesters had in common now they were older.

Far from it. Miss World and Miss Universe are alive and well and bigger than ever. Massive in Asia and Latin America, and still big everywhere except western Europe and the conservative religious countries.

"we're not ugly we're not beautiful we're angry"

I found this inspirational, thanks for the thread.

I'm a bit miffed!

I posted a link to this earlier in the day to alert others to it happening, and then i see someone has started a totally new one.

How rude!!!!

I wasn't that impressed.

Peter Hain was allowed to be overtly political, the women were presented much more as having an emotional response. I know that is the problem that the media, including women who work in the media dont recognise feminism, let alone women's liberation, is / was a poltical movement. they just went for thealrady known facts. Casual references to oh we knew other groups were going to do something is very dismissive of how groups networked at a time there was no social media etc..

Was interested in the interviews with the women had taken part in the contest.

Michael Aspel was obviously trying to present himself as being sort of aware.

But of all of it, a reminder of just how despicable men, and male humour was about women, showing Bob Hope should have made a big impact. Angry
