She promises total confidentiality. Direct message on Twitter or I suppose her email might be on The Times website. She's planning to write a piece about this.

Bump to make sure people see this!

Qcng · 11/03/2020 00:27

Thanks for the bump!
I'll try to remember to bump for morning crowd because this could get interesting

XXSex · 11/03/2020 06:11

Bump

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 11/03/2020 07:57

Bumpety bump!

mcduffy · 11/03/2020 09:09

Thanks for flagging. I've not had this but my best mate at work has. Called a transphobe for raising legitimate safeguarding concerns around erosion of single-sex spaces for the work we do. I'll see if he wants to contribute.

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 11/03/2020 10:34

I haven't experienced issues at work. Yet! I suspect it will come, though Sad But if it does, it does. I've nailed my colours to the mast; no going back now.

Double3xposure · 11/03/2020 10:56

Thanks for looking into this Janice.

I had an informal complaint made against me for wearing the woman definition lanyard at work. The person was offended as it was perceived to be transphobic. I agreed not to wear it so as not to cause offence, the implication being it would be escalated to a formal complaint if I carried on wearing it. I didn't hang my work badge from it I wore it as an accessory. Because it was only an informal complaint no investigation was carried out to discover if the definition of woman was transphobic.
I'll contact Janice.

Same - I suspect that the twitter people (and the bots) would come after me, then the people IRL, and I could lose my job, which is ironic because in theory I have a decent level of protection for free speech. But not about this, I don't think. I have very little confidence that my employer would stand behind me.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 12/03/2020 14:04

Haven't replied on twitter yet (I have a GC account on a separate device with a different email that I can't always access).

For healthcare professionals, social media guidance combined with "don't bring the profession into disrepute" codes of conduct, means open and honest posting (which would inevitably be reported by monitors) would likely be not just job ending, but career ending.

Look at the vitriol thrown at Suzanne Moore. Most health care workers don't have the resources to say fuckit.

We work in a truly Orwellian system.

This is a very quiet thread, I suspect very few people try expressing gender critical views at work.

Qcng · 13/03/2020 07:47

It's true, everyone can see what happens to women who speak out, and know full well not to do it themselves.

I know a social worker who said very clearly "You don't talk about it" when I raised the trans child issue, wrt her line of work.

mcduffy · 13/03/2020 08:05

Janice has said she's been inundated

mcduffy · 13/03/2020 08:06

On twitter, I don't know her IRL (I wish!)
