Another account of a woman being sacked by student pressure which was overreacting and getting it wrong:

It's not clear what her "offensive" views were, but the outcome is appalling.

I'm actually shocked by this. Her contract actually stated
'My RAM contract specifically stated that “academic staff have freedom within the law to question and test received wisdom and to put forward new ideas and controversial or unpopular opinions, without placing themselves in jeopardy of losing their jobs and privileges they have at the Academy”.'

As far as I can see from the article, she was quoting what somebody else had written/said about gypsies, repeating the racist term that they used.

It's like being fired for quoting certain passages from Huckleberry Finn!

Yes, that was what I surmised - and yes - it's bonkers. A total lack of understanding and whupped up offence from the students, and a totally badly managed process (£186,000 worth of bad management ...)
