Boys on education for girls

Boys don’t believe girls have an equal right to education?

What am I missing?

Did they just think it would be funny to answer that way?!

You arent missing Anything. This is how entitled men raised another entitled generation and dont feel they anyon having anything is fair unless it benefits them.

Girls exist in schools for behaviour management and eye candy Sad

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 06/03/2020 23:10

It feels like an attack.
Remove the word mother and say it is offensive, othering and not inclusive.
That's good for "intending" parents aswell.

Wrong thread Blush

The most shocking statistic is:
90 per cent of girls aged 16 to 18 strongly believing that they have an equal right to education
10% of girls don't believe girls have an equal right to education!? How can this be? It makes me so sad.

aliasundercover · 06/03/2020 23:17

I do wish newspapers would link to the survey, however. I'd like to see exactly what questions were asked.

aliasundercover · 06/03/2020 23:23

A little bit of searching shows that the survey was conducted by Hall and Partners, who "Build brand relationships that matter". They don't seem to have the best reputation surveysheriff.blogspot.com/2013/06/a-review-of-hall-partners-online-surveys.html

AutumnRose1 · 07/03/2020 00:20

Thanks alias

I’d also like to see the questions

Something seems off here.

The most shocking statistic is:

I teach in a relatively sexist area of the country and I would be amazed if any of this was true. It's very common for brands wanting free media attention to commission 'research' with pre-ordained 'shocking' results.

AutumnRose1 · 07/03/2020 00:33

Yes, don, that’s what I’m thinking.

The headline '1 in 3 boys...' doesn't sound like an accurate representation of what the stats they report say. '62 per cent of boys aged 16 to 18 said they strongly believe...' Most surveys have 5 choices: strongly agree, agree, no opinion, disagree, strongly disagree. And if they only have two or three choices there would be no 'strongly'. Is it likely only 5% would have chosen 'agree' or 'no opinion'?

SarahTancredi · 07/03/2020 08:07

Why are people surprised ?

We see how much women and girls are hated every day.

We see how girls are treated in education every day.

It may not he legal to batter them like in russia but lets not pretend that girls arent treated like lesser citizens from day one in schools . Whatever people say/claim their actions speak volumes

donquixotedelamancha · 07/03/2020 09:01

Why are people surprised ?

Well, in my case it's because my job involves talking to hundreds of children over the last decade about their views on things like equality and I've hardly ever heard anything like this. The few times I have it has been teen boys looking to be controversial, rather than thought out views.

Gronky · 07/03/2020 09:06

A little bit of searching shows that the survey was conducted by Hall and Partners, who "Build brand relationships that matter"

Which sounds to me like they tailor the survey to produce the 'desired' results. I was unable to find a copy of the presented survey on either the theirworld or Hall & Partners site. It seems like reading how it's structured might be useful to draw conclusions.

SarahTancredi · 07/03/2020 09:07

Forget the talking. It's the actions that indicate what the real thoughts are.

"Gender nuetral" toilets

Girls as buffer zones

Seating plans

Refusal of access to toilets and being left to bleed through clothes

Uniform "options" that dont take onto account girls changing body shapes etc

Less sports options

Low take up of stem In mixed schools by girls

All these are good indicators of how little girls are thought of on school environments.

CuckooCuckooClock · 07/03/2020 09:09

From the behaviour I see in my school every day I’d say that a significant number of boys think they have more right to an education than the girls. I’d be surprised if they’d admit this though (or even be aware that that is what they think)

deydododatdodontdeydo · 07/03/2020 09:29

See if I was asked the question "do girls have an equal right to education" I might be tempted to answer no.
Did they ask "should girls have an equal right"?

aSofaNearYou · 07/03/2020 10:24

The phrasing strongly suggests they picked an option like "agree" or "no opinion" to me. Still sucks that men/boys are often so apathetic on this subject but I doubt this many said they actively disagreed.

Mockerswithnoknockers · 07/03/2020 10:30

Agree that 'Do girls have an equal right...' is ambiguous.

If there were boys expressing this view, I am willing to bet they come from certain religious conservative backgrounds of all stripes.
