Poll finds nearly a third of Labour voters may vote for another party over its 'trans pledge'

The survey, by a politics professor at Birkbeck University, looks at people who voted for left wing parties in the December general election.

It finds that about half of voters of the Greens and Lib Dems are opposed to the 'trans pledge', but the party worst hit by this is Labour with 27% of their 2019 voters saying they are considering voting for another party due to its pandering to trans activism. The vast majority also oppose the trans pledge.

Labour secured 10.2 million votes last year. This would equate to a loss of nearly 3 million voters. There's no evidence that Labour has generated any support from voters of other parties due to the trans pledge (the Tories secured 14 million votes at that election).

I left the party over it. Final straw. Told them why, never got a reply.

TheRealMcKenna · 02/03/2020 21:52

The tragedy is that there was plenty of data available to show that this sort of pandering to pressure groups and ‘identity politics’ is exactly why Labour lost in December and the Dems lost in 2016 but they just....won’t.....listen.

If you can’t trust them to protect women, how the hell can we expect them to look after children and the disabled, let alone trust them with the economy and national defence.

Sod that. They lost my vote after 2015 and they’re not getting it back.

@R0wantrees what do you mean the current tory gov is not as secure as past ones?
curious as with their majority andthe labour shambles surely they are very secure no?

Chiochan · 02/03/2020 22:32

@TheRealMcKenna @iguanadonna they are incapable of hearing. i spend literally hours trying to identify the psychology behind it.

Verily1 · 02/03/2020 22:42

Fighting for women’s rights just isn’t trendy anymore.

This is more of why people are disillusioned with all politicians in general.

Mner2000 · 02/03/2020 22:45

Cancelled my membership with WEP last month and told them I am going to give my money to FairPlay for women who are properly advocating for women’s rights. She was not surprised. Said they had received lots of similar calls...

BlackForestCake · 02/03/2020 22:57

Could always (in time honoured leftist tradition) form a split. "Women's Labour Party" or "Women's Equality Party (Reality-Based)"

Someone said that the 'true believers' would find a way to dismiss this study. Well I am GC and as a scientist I have to say that this is a very poor study and if the author had calculated statistical significance he would have found none. Just because we are GC doesn't mean we should suspend our critical faculties over the valdities of studies whose outcomes we agree with!

justcly · 02/03/2020 23:31

Polynerd, I agree with you. I can't find that third in the statistical minestrone the article presents either. Even if the 27% claim was justified (it isn't), 27% is not "nearly a third".

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 02/03/2020 23:46

And yet the woke core of the party is still convinced this is an issue that the public support, or can be strongarmed into supporting. Starmer may realise it's not but can't say so without risking losing the leadership vote.

I'd really like there to be a viable non-Tory option for people to vote for but the rest seem determined not to get elected.

calllaaalllaaammma · 03/03/2020 11:23

Do they have any survival instinct at all though?

Is anyone listening?

Do they even care?

R0wantrees · 03/03/2020 12:33

That vaucuum is potentially risky place.

These are very recent speeches. Waters & Robinson have been listening & are now appealling to Labour & Conservative 'common sense' voters respectively.

to be very clear, by posting links I am not in any way endorsing these groups or individuals. However, I think it very important that people are aware of which groups are seizing the narrative

Ann Marie Waters of 'For Britain'
'Thank you Dawn Butler'

Tommy Robinson of 'Heart of Oak'
