Tavistck Judicial Review Granted

From Twitter

The judge has now read the submissions of evidence from all parties- judicial review is GRANTED- so GID service at Tavistock and nhs will be fully examined about whether asking under 18 year olds to give informed consent to hormone blockers is unlawful.

A step in the right direction, I hope. And with it more sunlight.

Well done to Sue Evans and Kiera Bell.

Love it when Baby Shipman is so worked up he forgets basic grammar. Cor he is in a right old froth

So Mermaids are an interested party. That means that they may try and add evidence, make submissions. But they won’t drive this process - and they don’t have to be joined. That’s up to the judge.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 28/02/2020 22:50

I’m inclined to agree with Nauticant. I’d like to hear Mermaids present their evidence.

Yes anyone can apply in either side to be an intervenor in a case so mermaids may well do so. I agree with others - let's shine a legal light on their arguments. They have hugely vested interest in this case. If the ruling goes the right way they will have to have a massive shift in approach.

Datun · 29/02/2020 08:42

I'd also like to see Mermaids present evidence. Actual studies, provable stats, etc. And why an IT consultant is best placed to advocate giving children drugs off label with lifelong consequences.

Doesn't Green also want to reduce the age and eliminate psychological assessments?

TirisfalPumpkin · 29/02/2020 09:12

If Mimmymum’s previous performance in court is anything to go by, they got nothing except cry - hurt feelings - demand reporting restrictions - cry - repeat.

I also welcome their submission to the court. Sunlight.

I’d like to see contributions by women and men who have been refused sterilisation as adults because “you might change your mind”
NHS on female sterilisation

www.nhs.uk/conditions/contraception/female-sterilisation/

“ Is sterilisation right for me?
Almost any woman can be sterilised, but it should only be considered by women who do not want any more children or do not want children at all.

Once you're sterilised it's very difficult to reverse it, so consider all options before making your decision.

Sterilisation reversal is not usually available on the NHS.

You may be more likely to be accepted for the operation if you're over 30 and have had children.”
“ Your GP can refuse to carry out the procedure or refuse to refer you for it if they do not believe it's in your best interests.”

So adult women can have their competency to consent to being sterilised overruled by their GP. As an adult men.

There is a lot about preserving fertility in cancer patients, adult and children. I wonder how it compares against GIDS protocols of the same secondary impact for treatment for gender dysphoria.

Datun yes she does. Slide somewhere on our mermaids thread here:

twitter.com/SafeSchools_UK/status/1231951900695764993?s=20

Another thread I saw indicated that mermaids were very different before Green took over. Much more balanced, much less affirmative.

The juxtaposition is shocking.

Thanks 2fallsagain. I was looking for that.

Needmoresleep · 29/02/2020 10:20

I would welcome a Mermaids submission (whatever it is called). The judge should have access to the whole picture and hopefully facts will speak for themselves.

What irritates me is that Mermaids is so well funded, whereas those seeking to protect children have to rely on crowdfunding. Presumably time to start digging again.

Justhadathought · 29/02/2020 10:22

let's hope the judge hasn't drunk the koolaid

That's the issue, isn't it?

I think we tend to have an image of a judge as being someone with great practical and moral wisdom - accrued from experience; but that is simply not the case. All levels of society can be captured by an idea or an ideology.

What are the qualifications for becoming a judge?

2fallsagain · 29/02/2020 10:28

Need more sleep I think this crowdfunder is going well. As soon as people were able to put a name and face on the base the crowdfunder topped up quickly. The problem with other cases is that the claimants are anon so harder for general public to engage with. The OCC one is sitting around half its target and I know there is potential for another big case coming up which will have to be crowdfunder. Problem is, unless we can reach beyond our community, it's the same people digging.

Needmoresleep · 29/02/2020 10:32

What is OCC?

(Kids have left home so I can give myself a monthly digging allowance.)

ClitoriaTernatea · 29/02/2020 10:40

Need it's the Oxford County Council judicial review case.

wellbehavedwomen · 02/03/2020 17:54

The Oxfordshire case is this one. It's essential because if they succeed in that case, every other LA in the country using it (mine, for a start) would have to stop. It's key that it succeeds, because if it doesn't regulatory capture of so many schools, and therefore kids, will continue. As is the aim.
