Bpas - British Pregnancy Advisory Service

Today, and every day throughout Lent, our clinics in Birmingham, Bournemouth, Brighton, Cardiff, Nottingham, Reading & Southampton will be targeted by protesters like this, thanks to #40DaysForLife.
You can help us stop them: back-off.org/take-action-now/ #BackOff

Details of 40 Days for Life campaign 6 March to 14 April

NB this is a link to their web site to the page listinge where they will be protesting. Other pages may have offensive images that could be triggering goodcounselnet.co.uk/40-days-for-life

I know in previous years local women have got together to oppose their picketing.

Although in the past Clinics have asked that demonstrations doo not impacts on women trying to access the clinics.

Signed and shared. Thanks for highlighting OP.

Thanks. Just to let you know the Good Counsel Network link is from last year as it has 2019 dates, so the list of locations might not be up to date.

Languishingfemale · 26/02/2020 19:45

Vile people.

stumbledin · 26/02/2020 21:18

Sorry about the 2019 link - posted in haste.

I cant find one for 2020 but this is a map of vigils across the world(!) from 40 days for Life. Horrible number of places.

If you scroll across to UK and enlarge you can see individual places being picketed.

how do we know if a local clinic would prefer there not to be a counter demonstration?

ClitoriaTernatea · 26/02/2020 22:10

Brilliant, thank you, have sent the excellent. template letter to my MP.

Whome91 · 26/02/2020 22:19

Ok don’t jump on me here
I’m anti abortion but I wouldn’t dream of going outside a clinic with already scared/upset etc women it really is disgusting and it gives a bad name to pro livers

StillWeRise · 26/02/2020 23:06

true pro lifers will be trying to improve the lives of those who are already born, for example by supporting families on low incomes, food banks etc

I think if you see from the map that there is going to be a picket it would maybe be best to contact them direct.

They may say stay away, its stressful enough but please write to local newspapers.

Or they may say can you be a friendly escort for women wanting to come to the clinic but feeling intimidated.

I must admit I am not sure if all clinic are now protected by an exclusion zone or whether it was just Ealing.

The language needs to be changed.

They are not pro-lifers, they are forced-birthers.

There is a group called Sister Supporters who seem to be organising some pro choice counter demos. Unfortunatley they talk about "pregnant people"!

Oh dear - it looks like this thread sort of duplicates or is much the same as this one www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3822115-BPAS-have-resurrected-the-Back-Off-campaign?pg=1

Perhaps one of the things to do is that if you have the time is to contact the MP for the area where pro life pickets are being planned and ask them to take action. And / or the local council.

Last time they tried to picket our local clinic they got their arses handed to them.

ArcheryAnnie · 28/02/2020 00:29

When there was one of these in London, someone organised a "40 days of treats", with one woman every day walking past the protestors to hand in something as a treat. The treats had to be commercially packaged, of course (if I worked in a clinic I would never, ever risk eating anything homemade sent in) but it was just a token of appreciation that seemed to be welcome. Some of the treats were small non-edible crafted items as well as chocolate and suchlike, too.

My Tory MP wrote back to tell me that he didn’t think the introduction of a buffer zone was an appropriate response. But then wrote in a later paragraph, that it was unacceptable for anyone to feel harassed or intimidated while exercising their legal right to healthcare! I’m so angry.
