Liberating, my arse. I have several pairs of extremely high heels, but they're not liberating they are shoes for sitting in.

And anyone that tries to tell me otherwise will get the toe of my (glittery) Doc up their backside Grin

FearOfTheDuck · 26/02/2020 11:49

Liberating. This word does not mean what he thinks it means.

Purpleartichoke · 26/02/2020 14:00

My clunky orthopedic shoes are liberating. They let me walk without pain, thus allowing me to live a full life.

MingeofDeath · 26/02/2020 14:14

He should try wearing his own creations for a while. See how liberating that feels. Idiot.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 26/02/2020 14:15

Yes, if they’re so great why don’t men wear them?

WhereYouLeftIt · 26/02/2020 14:28

"“When I started out, women had a conventional relationship with the shoe. It was an accessory,” he said. “It’s become an object of devotion [and] adoration. Some of my customers dedicate a veritable cult to the shoe.” "

Talk about being self-centred! Women have NEVER a conventional relationship - by which I presume he means the same relationship as men - with shoes. He didn't change ANYTHING. I have a vague memory of reading about symbolism of shoes in fairytales and the like (e.g. Cinderella's glass slippers) and for someone whose life's work is shoes to come out with such crap shoes a stunning level of self-regard.

Babdoc · 26/02/2020 14:35

Disabling and hobbling women with stupid shoes is just one level away from foot binding.
This sexist third rate cobbler has a vested interest in promoting this - it’s how he earns his living. He’s hardly going to repent and start making well designed supportive trainers any time soon. He’s just doubling down and trying to pretend stilettos are “liberating” to fend off the abuse he gets.

TheChampagneGalop · 26/02/2020 14:49

This is giving me a business idea. I would design a cool but overly tight and restrictive type of necktie that give men breathing problems after a while. I would market this as very masculine and liberating accessory and they would be luxury items. But I wouldn't wear the necktie myself, oh no, I'm a woman after all!

SapphireSeptember · 26/02/2020 15:50

I don't own high heels, I have some boots with two inch heels which I find slightly tricky to walk in (not painful, just I feel quite high up and it's unnerving.) The rest of the time it's combat boots, sneakers, pointy toed ankle boots with an inch thick heels or very rarely my sparkly jelly shoes (which are honestly more for looking at). I hate high heels. I can't walk in them and they hurt. Liberating my arse.

Pinnacular · 26/02/2020 15:53

Liberating. Empowering. Woman. Just a few words that are losing all original meaning.

feelingverylazytoday · 26/02/2020 15:59

Lol, we're not slaves to fashion any more. We're going to carry on wearing our trainers, our Doc Martens, our leggings and jeggings and skinny jeans and whatever the hell else we feel most comfortable in. Now, that's liberating.
Get used to it, Mr Louboutin and the rest of the fashion industry.

lolaflores · 26/02/2020 16:20

I hear foot binding made Chinese women feel very fulfilled and able to take a full participating role in society and not fetishized for the needs if men. So that's all cleared I then. The total dick that he is

Thelnebriati · 26/02/2020 17:01

I find these very liberating if the kidnappers have used rope.

Liberating shoes....

'Women have NEVER a conventional relationship - by which I presume he means the same relationship as men - with shoes'

This kind of post is why I love MN feminists Smile

Babdoc · 26/02/2020 19:07

Cobbler talks cobblers, basically!

RubyViolet · 26/02/2020 19:26

Last wore highish heals to 2 weddings in the last 3 years. It was awful. Thank goodness for the flip flops in my bag . I am done with heals. It’s over.
Autumn / Winter for me is = Blundstone / Grenson.
Spring /Summer = Birkenstock/ flat sandals/ Converse. Counting the days until my toes can come out into the fresh air again.
