Saw this on the Gender Critical reddit page, thought it was excellent!
Is this a ray of hope?

Compelled speech in a courtroom is the thin end of a dangerous wedge

Absolutely agree. It is profoundly problematic. Those in the House of Lords who raised objections to the GRA in 2004 made precisely this point. That people would be compelled by the state to make statements which they believed to be false. They were reassured this would not happen. Yet here we are.

RoyalCorgi · 24/02/2020 12:51

The comments are interesting. Mostly against compelled speech. I wonder how many are from lawyers?

I also wonder whether, in making Maria use female pronouns for her attacker, the judge was technically making Maria guilty of perjury. Seems like you could argue it either way.

THE NEW MUMSNET. The horror.

Catting · 24/02/2020 14:25

This is a quote from a transwoman in the comments....

"It is not acceptable for you to call me a man or use pronouns that you know I find to be hurtful simply because you have suffered at my hands "

How dare they say this!? 'I want to attack you, and then control how you talk about it too' basically.

I don't know what sentence was given, but I know for sure I will regard it as woefully inadequate.

You won't have to eat your hat. Wolf got a £400 fine. And the judge made a point of telling MM that he had reduced it from what he would have given due to her "provocation" including misgendering and posting about it after it happened, despite the evidence that Wolf already intended to attack women when Wolf went to Hyde Park.

RoyalCorgi · 24/02/2020 14:58

Just saw this comment on the Gazette article (from a man, natch):

"Equally most feminists are sensitive to the fact that trans women suffer a level of discrimination and abuse that genetic women never experience."

What planet are these people on?

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/02/2020 15:12

@Rainbows8117

This is a link to the Daily Mail report of the court case.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5613057/Model-punched-feminist-smashed-120-camera-violent-brawl-walks-free-court.html

It includes videos of the attack on Maria MacLachlan

Catting · 24/02/2020 15:43

We can use correct pronouns now if the person has been violent...this is from MNHQ:

"That said, if someone has been convicted of violent/sexual offences then our first priority will always be to stand with the victims and - where relevant - the use of pronouns would take a back seat to that so far as our mod team is concerned."

So we can say that Wolf was a violent man who attacked a woman.

The autistic lady's post is so sad. Why should her attackers feelings matter more than hers?

BovaryX · 24/02/2020 16:56

That is unbelievable. This person didn't even get jail time? Provocation? What an utter outrage. It's just dire. Misogyny in action. I do not have words for what I think of the judge. MM was violently assaulted and she has been absolutely let down by the justice system. It's a frickin outrage.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/02/2020 21:58

Completely agree, Bovary.

DresdenChina · 25/02/2020 00:14

I have said it before but it's worth mentioning again here. The Judiciary ( plus Barristers) is riddled with cross dressing sissies who pay for extra curricular submissive 'play'

So it's highly likely they have bias in favor of TRA's, along with the mainstream misogyny they already have of course

bluehighlighter · 26/02/2020 10:39

You can't provoke a crime after it's been committed.

MrsSnippyPants · 26/02/2020 15:27

Another great article from Caroline ffiske here:

SetYourselfOnFire · 27/02/2020 00:21

Don't forget in reaction to Linda Bellos' outrage at this case, they took her to court too.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/09/26/veteran-labour-activist-facing-private-prosecution-anti-trans/

Meanwhile, nothing slows the barrage of death and rape threats TRAs direct at women.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 27/02/2020 00:35

"It is not acceptable for you to call me a man or use pronouns that you know I find to be hurtful simply because you have suffered at my hands"

Oh hey there, obvious abuser who is very obvious. Also Dresden is correct, the further up the chain of power you go the more men who pay good money to be told they're a sissy baby/slutty maid/whatever you will find. That's played a huge role in the way this stuff has been forced on the public. It wasn't poor blokes from mining towns running the Beaumont Society.

Thinkingabout1t · 27/02/2020 00:39

Bovary, Tara Wolf, in his 20s, was fined £150 for assaulting Maria Maclachlan, who was 60. Broad daylight, Hyde Park.
