"You can't challenge the gender role binary by upholding the gender role binary."
I was going to quote lots, but actually, it's all so important that would do her a disservice. It's quite brilliantly argued. She talks so clearly and simply about complex subjects. I'd already linked to her a few times with her piece on male-centreing being so culturally accepted that it's seen as outrageous when women fail to do it, and this is, I think, just as important. It covers all the key areas - reading this feels like someone has downloaded my brain, and organised my thoughts into a more coherent and cohesive form, right down to the commentary that this is a secular religion, and while deserving respect and courtesy in the way all faiths do, should not be allowed to dictate the lives and behaviours of those who do not share it. She articulates lucidly all that is most troubling about the wider implications for safeguarding, too, and with calmness and understatement. Just such a good piece.
