'Woman' is taken

Can we have some t-shirts with this on them, please?

I'm so angry with the transwoman on The Moral Maze who thinks that because there's something she calls a 'family resemblance' ie, she looks a bit like a woman, that that's enough to be a woman. That in itself is a really revealing demonstration of how little respect transwomen like her
hold for women and how superficial they are.

I'm glad Glinner said it on MM. Women have been saying this for years and it amplifies our voices.

I see one of Glinner's little fans is here already. Hi Mocker!

Troels · 21/02/2020 08:52

They can have the word Cis, I don't want it.
I have a word it's Woman. They can't take it, and they can't rename us so they can have it.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/02/2020 08:55

'My DH saw a guy at his climbing gym yesterday wearing a T-shirt that said:

I support women and cis women

WTAF!'

What that t shirt really means is 'I hate women'.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 21/02/2020 09:06

Troels I see 'cis' as an insult. We're not a subset of the category woman, we ARE the damn category.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/02/2020 09:19

What that t shirt really means is 'I hate women'.

It does.

littlbrowndog · 21/02/2020 09:21

I hate women and now I can say out loud and proud

Go me.

ChattyLion · 21/02/2020 09:25

Exactly.

Isbutteracarb · 21/02/2020 09:34

Yes. This. ☝🏼

SorryAuntLydia · 21/02/2020 10:07

MS: Yes but I mean the, the point is that this whole debate is very complex and it’s very sensitive and it will continue to be complex. There can’t really be any hard and fast rules and, one of the things you’ve just said, I want to pick up on, is that, if only women are females, what name do we give to men who are suffering body dysphoria?

Well I don’t see what’s wrong with naming ‘men who are suffering body dysphoria’ as ‘men who are suffering from body dysphoria’. It’s perfectly clear and descriptive. It emphasises the person rather than their condition, following for example, ‘men with diabetes’ or ‘men with webbed feet’. We don’t need new terms for these like ‘diabetahuman’ or ‘webpersona’.

And if they don’t suffer from body dysphoria, they could call themselves ‘men who like to wear glitter’.

Frankly if they want a single word, I agree with Glinner and pps the word woman is taken, find your own.

RoyalCorgi · 21/02/2020 10:12

I imagine they invited Jane Fae because the other TRAs refused to take part. #NoDebate, remember?

But if the panellists had done a tiny bit of research, they could have brought up Fae's deeply nasty history of misogyny and advocacy for extreme woman-hating porn.

LadyMadderRose · 21/02/2020 10:56

I actually sometimes wonder if someone powerful at the BBC is GC, can't be openly GC and has decided to sunlight the most extreme and misogynist transactivists instead. Or maybe not but that's certainly the effect it has. Getting Fae to speak for the trans ideology side of the debate is inviting people to discover just how egregiously nasty and violent the ideology can be, with a quick google.

Packingsoapandwater · 21/02/2020 13:51

The same Jane Fae who said that many murders are the result of ‘domestic violence gone wrong’

This really fucks me off. It is very difficult to kill someone in a hand to hand situation without employing extraordinary force or a blunt object.

And I don't quite think hitting someone with a hammer or shafting them with a knife is quite what people think of when they think of domestic violence.

It's like this "sex game gone wrong" bullshit for strangulation. You need an extraordinary amount of applied force to strangle someone; you fucking know you are doing it. It's not something you can do accidentally.

Troels · 21/02/2020 15:33

Hell yes!

Tanith · 21/02/2020 16:10

"GL: Well, whatever name you like, it’s just the word "women" is taken"

The word "terf" isn't, though. We've rejected it. Don't they want it?

Xanthangum · 21/02/2020 16:38

Had to be done: www.mercht.com/c/gctshirts

Any profit will go to the Oxfordshire Judicial Review - www.crowdjustice.com/case/challenging-occ-transgender-schools-guidance/

(If 10 or more people pledge to buy one it goes to print)

Troels · 21/02/2020 16:47

But why do they want to muscle in on being what we are, women, They aren't. Can't they just carry on being men who don't conform to male norms?
It makes me feel like they are trying to be a caricature of Women, making fun and being exagerated.
They can't really say they feel like a woman, no one who isn't a woman knows what being one feels like. I know what being a child feels like, I used to be one. I don't know what being a man feels like I only know what I'm told by men.
The whole thing really confuses me. I really don't care what people want to wear or how they want to live.
I just don't want to be erased, I don't want women to have to start from scratch getting back our rights and protections. I really worry for the young girls growing up now. What are they going to have to put up with.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 21/02/2020 16:47

@SorryAuntLydia

Perhaps soon there'll be a need for ducks and cisducks Wink

BiologyIsReal · 21/02/2020 17:36

TRAs are bizarre. Why would you want to be what you clearly hate?
But then logic is not their strong point.

insideandout3 · 21/02/2020 17:46

Well worth repeating:

"It’s interesting that they brought up what Glinner has previously said - or think he said - but didn’t call out the bullshit from Jane Fae."

insideandout3 · 21/02/2020 17:51

"Why would you want to be what you clearly hate?"

Feminists have questioned how the average heterosexual man can have such contempt, distrust, and disgust of women and still want to have sex with women. I think we ask because the concept of "hate fuck" (and its close kin rape) is utterly foreign to us in a physiological sense that we don't get aroused at the thought of hurting people the way many men so obviously do.

WrathofFaeKlopp · 21/02/2020 18:13

Fae was pontificating about climate change on Jeremy Vine show.
It was all a bit preachy, sounded like an expert even.

Come to think of it, even Flat Earthers are convincing in a dim light.

Breathtaking arrogance telling women what we should be doing to help climate change.

Deluded.

Leave the facts to Greta. She totally understands how to get the message across.

Gold!
Its identity theft.

Aesopfable · 22/02/2020 05:53

Bezallele maybe your DH should sport a top saying ‘I support men and cis-men’ and see if that guy agreed...
