Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Idly wondering if a one day strike on FWR would have any merit.

Just that really. Is it possible to organise it so that no women posts on FWR for a day to demonstrate the silencing of women's voices. And is it worth it?

It wouldn't be putting anyone out though.

Shouting louder is what we need!

id go into withdrawal

I don't think it'd demonstrate anything tbh. The people who don't want us talking would be delighted, and those who simply don't agree with us have already blocked the board. Stand by now though for your post to get screenshot and shared with the caption "great idea, why not go on boycott for a month" or similar by TRAs...

It was just a ponder. And unlike some people, I won't get upset by knobs on t'net. No hurty feelz here.

A national woman's strike, yes. That's needed.

I'm seriously wondering if its going to come to action like this. I never thought in my adulthood I'd be needing a t shirt saying 'female people get equal rights; get over it'.

I read an article a while back about a women's strike in Iceland. Not this article but this is something I've dug up just now www.bbc.com/news/magazine-34602822

I was ignorant until I had my own children 10 years ago. Until that point as a child of the seventies I thought the battle was long won. Bitter, bitter disappointment.

I don't think so, no. People who dont think women's concerns are valid think silence is the ideal female behaviour.

Also 'protests' on social media don't seem very valid to me.

The single most important thing is to voice what we think in real life - which includes listening to the answers. Conversations in reality are noth much more effective and in fact much less vulnerable than something like Twitter.

tooyoungat40 · 16/02/2020 17:08

Absolutely agree with voicing it in real life. There have been two occasions with relatively distance friends where something has come up in conversation and I have been able to slip in the alternative view. And within immediate circle have 'turned' husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law. They are now noticing and bringing things up in conversation i.e. NHS policy on single gender (sex!!!) wards (of interest to aging parents-in-law) and the information being fed into primary schools. Each one of us has the ability to have a knock on effect on those around us.

Even if quite a few people thought it was a good idea, no, it wouldn't be possible to organise it. Trying to organise many thousand disparate women to all not do something at the same time would make cat-herding look easy.Grin

(still confused what FWR is)

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/02/2020 21:35

Female and Women's rights

I think

NeurotrashWarrior · 16/02/2020 21:35

Feminism and women's rights?

nachthexe · 16/02/2020 21:40

Feminism and women’s rights. It’s what feminism chat used to be called but many still refer to FWR. I do myself. Feminism chat is too woolly and mimsy for an area of such import.

Brefugee · 17/02/2020 06:38

thanks all - I guess it was this board but couldn't work it out. I actually think it fits the topic better
